Jeff, when you live in the country on a nice plot of land with similarly oriented neighbors, such rules don’t matter as much.
Fish and Game rules exist for a reason, there are biologists that make these rules. They are very lenient in most states on coyotes. Even in CA you can hunt coyotes at night. No need to break the law.

While it may be a fun project, night vision scopes are the last thing you need for successful coyote depredation.

Calling coyotes is very effective (electronic calls if legal) and you can also spotlight them (if night hunting / depredation is legal).

Be careful to check that there are not other similar looking animals that are protected (wolves, foxes, neighbor's mutt), especially when you hunt in low light or shoot long distance.

You could get your hunting guy from CA to start hunting the coyotes. Make it part of his access requirement to keep the predator population in check. This is not an uncommon request from landowners.

Long time, no see Nick! Welcome back ....

But since the the thread lives again.....did you get yer 'yotes Paul? I'd put out a 'yote caller or whatever they're called....whatever it takes if it were my land...

My former LEO tennant shot a couple smack in the middle of the city in the woods behind his (my) house....they wuz there . He used the electronic callers in other places....said they work....'yotes like a wounded buffet. They ain't as dumb as I remember from the Road Runner cartoons...they seem to know who has a rifle handy too.

Road kill and a game call.. Then call me when they start showing up at the road kill. I'll bring a friend. We'll fix the problem. You put the food source out there and they'll come to it during the day.
Either that or I can bring the boys out east with the dogs. One guy in Celina Ohio has hunt dogs and then kill dogs. Never been on a hunt with them but it sounds pretty intense.

We use a wounded rabbit call. Seems to work. As mentioned above, roadkill works well too. I'm gonna try some cheap dog food placed about 200 yards from my hunting blind. Should make for some fun with my 250.

No answer needed for that.
a) If no, then then the problem is no longer a problem for whatever reason.
b) If yes, then the situation probably resolved itself.

I have heard tell of people using a high power air rifle to take down troublesome coyotes.

I would stay away from ATN. Chicom garbage. BTW that unit above is not an optical scope. It's nothing more than a glorified digi-cam in "scope" form and without an IR illuminator, it is pretty much useless for NV.
Also, not sure on the current status but at one point DOJ had a backdoor into all user data/info for every single person who downloaded the ATN phone app to use with their "scopes" (under the umbrella of ITAR security or some such).

The entry point for real NV at long distances typically starts at $6k+, and goes way up from there.

A crossbow is a lot quieter and depending on the one you buy, highly effective out to 75 yards.

That became abundantly clear to me as I dug into NV scopes with intent.

I ended up not buying anything for a few reasons. Game cameras stopped showing coyotes after my neighboring farm owner and his son-in-law got serious about calling them in, bought a real NV scope and took down at least ten to date.

That and I am cheap

I am still, however, still putting down clay pigeon rebellions with abandon!

Ten! Yikes that's quite a population boom.

I should have mentioned that another farm near me raises goats, lots of goats. It seems my place was more of a highway to the food

He has gotten smart on prevention with guard dogs, etc.

The Maryland Fish and Game folks encourage the hunting since the coyotes have no peers and have really strained the fox population.

I had no idea that they had "large" caliber airguns with 1000 fps velocity.

The females in heat will lure dogs into the woods, where the rest of the pack sets on it.
We just need more urban wolves.

I was surprised about the history and the technology even back then.

you need to check out the new updates in crossbows.

there is a new Ravin, that copied the compound bow guys. the Ravin Crossbow uses a rail-less system for the bolt. essentially the same concept as the drop away arrow rest that archers enjoy. the cross bow bolt is only contacting the crossbow at the string when you pull the trigger. they are getting tiny tiny groups at 100 yards. my neighbor bought one. 77 year old dude with Cataracts. he pulled it out and aimed at this target..a tiny one in his backyard. i said, "Whoa!! WHOA! what are you aiming at?!!" i was looking over his shoulder and he was gonna punch a hole in something important.

he stopped short and handed it to me. i shot it and the arrow just appears at the target. no watching it rainbow gracefully to the target. it is so fast, it is not seeable by the human eye at that short range.

i want one!! but it is $2500.

The neighbor with the farm that has had success with the coyotes is a very interesting Dude. F-4 RIO in Vietnam, former flight test guy, into guns and hunting; way, way into guns and hunting. Retired O-6 that made a lot of money with Boeing in St. Louis.

He has his Class XX license and owns a few automatic weapons and suppressors...which he lets me shoot.

So I go see him to discuss the coyote issue, get his thoughts on scopes with the rifles I have. He shows me his NV stuff. Jesus.

Remarkable equipment but I have paid less for a new car.

He tells me, in reference to the coyotes, "we got this."

"We" meaning he and his son-in-law.

Seahawk doesn't surf.
