Have always liked this track, nothing fancy, but usually a good race with lots of action.

BTW 3 place grid penalty for Hamilton. Let's see what he can do with that tomorrow.

astrochex 06-29-2019 12:49 PM

Something different, yay!

I would love to see LeClerc get his first win.

We might know if that will happen at the first corner.

chapo 06-29-2019 01:59 PM

First Lap should be more exciting than the last few seasons of racing

CurtEgerer 06-29-2019 02:42 PM

So the attorneys/rules-makers are pretty much determining the F1 races then  Hamilton gets a 3-place grid drop. But only moves 2 spots down because Magnussen who was P5 took a 5-place penalty that was handed out before Ham's. And then there's penalties for Hulkenberg, Russell, Albon, and Sainz. Sainz originally ahead of Albon, but then another rule interpretation swapped those positions. I'm probably missing a few more.

It was a lot simpler when grid positions were determined by lap times ...

Noah930 06-29-2019 09:51 PM

It makes me chuckle when some poor sop accumulates something ridiculous, like 25 grid place penalties for one race. Like the guy should be starting his race from the hotel parking lot.

CurtEgerer 06-30-2019 03:48 AM

Maybe not that far-fetched. The FIA were busy handing out more penalties overnight and now Russell will start from the <s>hotel parking lot</s> pit lane. His crime? Changed a damaged front wing.

F1 has turned from the world class racing series it once was to a clown show :( Way too many rules that are choking any chance of competitve racing . Liberty Media has their hands full to turn this turd around and make it exciting for the fans/sponsors/manufacturers/race promoters . Will I watch today's Austria GP ? Yep ........... will I be disappointed with the " racing " ? Probably  But there's always hope that some racing will take place .

Today's Weather Tech race from Watkins Glen will be a more enjoyable race to watch at least for me . Happy 4th of July everyone stay safe :D

cairns 06-30-2019 07:07 AM

All you idiots who aren't watching just missed one hell of a race......

Great racing!

David 06-30-2019 08:47 AM

Awesome race! Just hope the stewards don’t screw it up again.

God me too. Tom Kristenson is one of them so hopefully some common sense will prevail. That was a clean and fantastic pass.

fantastic semi-clean move by max
not the best defense by leC
he should have covered his inside line

DRS detection zone before the corner but given at exit on next strait
really helped max drive away from leC on dirty tyres

really an epic drive by max after the blown start
and shows honda has got the motor RIGHT this year FINALLY

nota 06-30-2019 09:58 AM

Stewards decision: No further action. Verstappen keeps Austria win!

as per atlas f-1 post

astrochex 06-30-2019 10:57 AM

I love how the pinnacle of racing celebrates bumper cars. Its Max at the Red Bull Ring, of course he won’t get a penalty.

Really exciting race, at last.
Max had the momentum and pace going into those last few laps.
I wish he had left a little room in the pass. But it was last laps and for the lead.
Max made some great moves making his way up thru the front runners.

So glad the stewards didn't call a foul on that pass.

I realy enjoyed seeing the close racing throughout the field. Good coverage!

Cool track. Great seeing some other cars at the front!

I could get reinterested in F1, if this sort of racing continued.

Cheers Richard

DaveE 06-30-2019 02:46 PM

My guess is if someone gets booted off the track during a pass next race there’s a penalty.

rusnak 06-30-2019 06:48 PM

The stewards received a note from Lord Helmet "...an eye for an eye" and then, what do you know, Max's pass was ruled to be a racing incident.

Wow, Haas loses Rich Energy. How much does that affect their finances & solvency when it happens mid-season?

https://www.yahoo.com/sports/haas-f1-title-sponsor-rich-183733040.html

(And is Claire Williams happy she dodged that bullet or what!?)

rusnak 07-10-2019 09:41 PM

Good riddance to the hippie. Haas is far more credible without them.

rfuerst911sc 07-11-2019 02:19 AM

Haas losing its title sponsor can't be good regardless if that sponsor was a sham or real . Haas is in a bad place this year , they were expected to step it up after last years good performance . But this year they have taken several steps back and that's not good . Gene Haas has deep pockets but that only goes so far , he can't be happy with this years return on investment and now there will be lots of speculation which will distract the team . Steiner has to step up and command/lead the team at this critical juncture , if he does not he will be replaced .

Both drivers need to look in the mirror and step up their game , both have done stupid stuff this year and that has to stop . The team needs stability at this point across the board . It can be done , just look at how McLaren went from being a laughing stock to where they are this year . Maybe Amazon or a similar US company will step up and be a main sponsor , will be interesting how the rest of the year and specifically how the next 2 - 3 races go . I am pulling for them .

rfuerst911sc 07-11-2019 03:18 PM

It would appear that Haas has NOT lost their sponsorship . But it looks like someone in the Rich Energy company is losing their job over the report.

Haas' title sponsor asserts commitment to team after 'rogue' tweet
9:33 AM PT
Nate Saunders
F1 Associate Editor

SILVERSTONE, U.K -- The shareholders of Haas' title sponsor Rich Energy has reaffirmed their commitment to the American team and distanced itself from an announcement appearing to suggest its partnership had ended, which it said was the "rogue actions" of a lone individual.

On Wednesday evening, a tweet from Rich Energy's official account said the team was pulling its title sponsorship deal. Haas refuted that suggested on Thursday during the media day ahead of this weekend's British Grand Prix, saying the deal was in place as normal.

Quote:

Today @rich_energy terminated our contract with @HaasF1Team for poor performance. We aim to beat @redbullracing & being behind @WilliamsRacing in Austria is unacceptable. The politics and PC attitude in @F1 is also inhibiting our business. We wish the team well #F1 #richenergy pic.twitter.com/9mAt2dOnYu
— Rich Energy (@rich_energy) July 10, 2019
There have been suggestions of an internal struggle within the energy drinks company, with an Autosport report suggesting the original tweet had been written by CEO William Storey without the knowledge of Rich Energy's investors. Storey created headlines during the launch of the partnership when he claimed he wanted to beat energy drinks giant Red Bull on and off the F1 track.

After the original tweet was sent he told the Sun newspaper that he considered Haas car to be a "milk float" that was damaging the Rich Energy brand.

Rich Energy CEO William Storey has apparently been forced out of the company by its main shareholders.

The company backtracked on the original tweet on Thursday afternoon in a statement from its main shareholders -- on this occasion, the statement was issued by Haas itself on behalf of its title sponsor, rather than via Rich Energy's social media.

The statement read: "The shareholders who own the majority of Rich Energy would like to clarify certain statements that have been circulated in the media from an unauthorized source.

"We wholeheartedly believe in the Haas F1 Team, its performance, and the organization as a whole and we are fully committed to the current sponsorship agreement in place. We also completely believe in the product of Formula One and the platform it offers our brand.

"Clearly the rogue actions of one individual have caused great embarrassment. We are in the process of legally removing the individual from all executive responsibilities. They may speak for themselves but their views are not those of the company. The incident is very regrettable; we will not be making further comment on this commercially sensitive matter and will be concluding it behind closed doors.

"We wish to confirm our commitment to the Haas F1 Team, Formula One and to thank the Haas F1 Team for their support and patience whilst this matter is dealt with internally."

I was going to start an 'F1 1962' thread, but I'll just put this here, and let the contrast speak for itself.

Yea, great old video. Amazing to see people standing on a curb just inches from the cars. The yachts in the harbor are mostly sailing vessels.

legion 07-14-2019 08:44 AM

What a race! I'm halfway through and TONS of wheel-to-wheel racing for all top 5 positions.

Silverstone SPOILERS:

Whoa! Vettel chokes again and runs into the back of Verstappen!

Rtrorkt 07-14-2019 09:28 AM

HAM, fastest lap on 30 lap old hard compound tires. Driver I say

astrochex 07-14-2019 10:07 AM

There was actual racing in this one with LeClerc brilliantly defending Verstappen even after Max performed his usual punt attempt at one point in the battle.

Congrats to Won for another won-two. :)

legion 07-14-2019 11:44 AM

Yeah, Hamilton was gifted the win by Giovinazzi. The way Bottas was driving, he probably could have kept Hamilton behind him the whole race...unless he made a mistake...or the battle slowed them both down so that #3 was a threat...

Is Leclerc Ferrari's #1 yet? Look how he handled Verstappen vs. how Vettel handled Verstappen.

Don Plumley 07-14-2019 01:51 PM

What a race! Opening battle between HAM and BOT was W2W fun. Clean, great racing. Unlucky for Bottas but very cool for Ham to get 6x Brit GP title - he's in another orbit. His team kept him out for a safety car and capitalized. Vettel and his red mist really cost Max a great race. I wish I could have been in the Haas debrief with Steiner - the post-race report even he admits how pissed he is, "I’m just stating the obvious here. The best that our drivers could bring to the battle was a shovel – to dig the hole we’re in even deeper." and "When I saw it on TV, I couldn’t almost believe it. There are two cars running into each other and it’s us two.”

So happy to see good racing throughout the field - 2 races now

cairns 07-14-2019 02:39 PM

Nice to see an athlete wrap himself in the flag of his country (rather than trample on it) and give full credit to his team.......I really think Vettel is past his sell by.....

URY914 07-14-2019 03:29 PM

The in-car camera work and the overhead video was incredible during the opening laps. They must use a drone to get those overheads where they are able to stay on the cars through a series of corners.

aston@ultrasw.c 07-14-2019 04:28 PM

Great race.

One question, how was Max's pit stop NOT considered an unsafe release?

Racing down the pit lane at 50mph: one car in the lane the other half in the service area, mechanics getting out of the way sharpish.

No penalty, so I guess the FIA consider this OK.

I believe the overhead shots are from a helicopter. In the pits, there is an overhead camera, like the ones in NFL stadiums.

The pit shots are by a camera on a wire. The ones I'm talking about couldn't be on a wire like the NFL games. The long overhead shot are clearly from a chopper. I talking about the lower level ones.
