Spot on. By lap 5 the race was about over. Some changes further back. The podium was determined.

I am guessing in Australia when you take your driver's test you don't have to look in your mirrors and back up ? What the heck was Ricardo thinking ?? Bone head move of the race . Haas struggling for pace they currently seem lost on their setup . When does the finger pointing start at Ferrari ?

Ferrari needs to hire a pit strategist from Joe Gibbs or Rick Hendricks, there pit strategy has been horrible for years. They always seem to get caught out and outfoxed by Mercedes and Red Bull

Heck, they could hire one of us on this thread and do better than what they've done historically.

I think the above comments apply to this race. Sure they got Vettel home in 3rd, but I think they could have done a lot better with Leclerc if they had brought him in sooner.

astrochex 04-28-2019 12:47 PM

I too thought, LeClerc should have been brought in much earlier, but Ferrari was concerned about the softs lasting for him. After he stopped, I was hoping he would show more pace, but he was not. He may have been saving the tires for fast lap, which he did on the final lap.

oldE 04-28-2019 01:10 PM

I don't think Leclerc's second set of tires worked for him, as he lost time to everyone ahead of him.
The fastest lap was set on another set of soft tires. He was far enough ahead of sixth place to pit for a second time without losing a place.

Mercedes does indeed have their fecal matter together.

Best
Les

^You’re right. He pitted with around three laps left.

I find runaway races to be more interesting than artificial close action.

That said, 2016 was the last year I closely followed F1, I fell off somewhere in 2017.

I loved 2014/2015 seasons a lot.

The aero packages of the car made for a movement of the cars that was fascinating to watch, even if there had been just one car on the track in a time trial.

I don't have that with the 2018/2019 F1.

I'm ok without close racing but I have to enjoy the other aspects.

VincentVega 04-28-2019 04:42 PM

I thought I heard a Hass retired due to brakes. Anyone remember their brake issue a year or 2 ago? I dont remember what the fix was. Is it fixed?

RIC, uh, wtf? bad enough to screw up a corner but I dont get the contact. He just didnt check his mirror, so careless.

I feel like a stooge, I was a big fan of KUB. They have nothing, zero. I love his story but dfl, man it hurts. I really hope he can pull it together and stop scraping the bottom.

Saw an article online about Claire Williams addressing rumors of the team being for sale . She flat out said the team is not for sale and that she and the team are 100 % motivated to turn things around . I guess time will tell but they need an infusion of something . Not sure if they need $$$ or technical help or what but they are in a bad place at the moment . I wish them the best .

Both McLarens and both Racing Points in the top 10. Haas didn't do well.

It is sad when the only "excitement" is trying to plan for the safety car to spice things up. With no safety car, boring race. How sad.

+1. YAWN. I'm a lifelong F1 fan who has completely lost interest. The entire incentive compensation program for the teams needs to be reworked. If they continue to give the teams with the most money already more money for winning, we can look forward to an eternity of Mercedes 1 & 2, Ferrari 3 & 4.

Red Bull came on the scene and dominated a few seasons.

I still remember on F-Chat the excitement that someone other than Red Bull won a race in 2014.

I do not call 1 car / driver winning a team dominating. In the case of RBR, 1 driver was winning the other was running about in P5, hardly a car dominance.

There is no comparison to what has been happening these last few years, none at all.

Mark my words, Mercedes are going to run a perfect season. 1-2 finishes every race.

Then we can argue if it was the car or that Mercedes just happen to have the best 2 drivers on the grid.

You could put Suzie in one of those cars and she would podium too. Hell, Kubica probably could too.

PS - 2014 was the First Mercedes 1-2 season. Red Bull was hurting Seb was already eyeing Ferrari.

I though huh, that's weird. I wondered if there was some arrangement.

In 2017 Hambone won and I wondered, was that payback for letting Nico win last year? Naw, couldn't be.

In 2018 hambone wins again with Bottas trailing.
Was bottas held back? Naw, couldn't be. Hambone was just faster.

Now it's 2019. Bottas is saying he's going to beat everybody. We'll see.
I don't think he has it in him but if he does, I'll be sporting the fanciest tin-foil hat there ever was.

Bottas had a tyre failure in 2018, or else he probably would have won.

I second the tin foil hat. lol

sammyg2 04-29-2019 10:56 AM

Maybe f1 needs to spice it up a little like crash-car:

I cannot wait to be insulted by Toto again as he trots out to tell Sky that Ferrari and Red Bull are making him nervous and they have an advantage.

I am amazed he can say that with such a straight face. I bet they sit in the trailer after those interviews and laugh.

Also, I am triggered by the finger gun shooting the Mercedes mechanics are doing after the race, I think it is in poor taste especially after (insert news worthy gun shooting that happened anywhere but Afrika here) happened.
