I had hoped the Merc Race pace would not be as good as the Quali pace. I was wrong.

I guess we now hope the other teams have better pace on a proper race track.

Looks like Red Bull made the right choice switching to Honda, I thought it was a mistake.

Also Bottas has put a stamp on this season as his, lets see if he can survive the mental onslaught he is about to get from his team mate.

I suspect Ferrari realized there was no hope and dialed back the cars saving the engines.

I've been doing the same thing for a few years now. Sometimes I just read the condensed race report after it's over and that's good enough. If you compare qualifying results and race results over the last few years, they are usually about the same.

I realize the series has frequently been one of domination (i.e., McLaren-Honda, McLaren-Porsche, Williams, Ferrari, Benetton, etc.). But it seemed different back then and not boring. Not sure why.

Race didn’t record for some reason. After reading the race notes I realize I saved two hours. Sebring was the exiting race to f the weekend.

The Grosean pit stop was a debacle how do you not get the wheel/tire on properly ? Yes I know they are pressed for a fast pit stop but get the damn wheels on ! That mistake cost them valuable points . Good run by Kevin M. a solid performance the entire race . Ferrari are off the pace they will be scrambling big time . Team Alfa looked decent they have potential for a solid year . McLaren too early to tell . I thought overall the " racing " was not all that great .

Didn't they do this last year?

The conspiracy theorists spun that the caution it brought out helped Ferrari.

Repeat of last years stop for Haas

Deschodt 03-17-2019 10:09 AM

Ferrari’s team orders came in quick. Leclerc was asked to stay behind Vettel.

Apparently a chunk of floor was missing from the rear of Ham’s car explaining the pace difference. TV also skipped the Bottas “to whom it may concern, F you” victory lap radio communication..

Also, I take it back on Kubica looking dismal: apparently he had a lot of damage on his car from contact with Gasly, and also lost his mirrors, etc... Patience grasshopper, let's see what happens next.

I signed up for ESPN just for F1 and INDY Car yesterday. I watched qualifying last night as I am prone to do. It's not as good of a program as it used to be as the camera work is lacking compared to not that long ago.

After reading all the comments here I don't know if I'll tune in for the rebroadcast. Might just skip to Bahrain.

Won’s wing won. Congrats!

Deschodt 03-17-2019 12:12 PM

Let's just hope that Melbourne is not very representative - and once on a real race track it's a little closer. Not so much because I'd like Ferrari to win but because I'd prefer Mercedes to be challenged.. Leclerc's interview with Buxton seemed to indicate that - he thought they would do much better on a track with more flow...

I though huh, that's weird. I wondered if there was some arrangement.

In 2017 Hambone won and I wondered, was that payback for letting Nico win last year? Naw, couldn't be.

In 2018 hambone wins again with Bottas trailing.
Was bottas held back? Naw, couldn't be. Hambone was just faster.

Now it's 2019. Bottas is saying he's going to beat everybody. We'll see.
I don't think he has it in him but if he does, I'll be sporting the fanciest tin-foil hat there ever was.

Now they're saying that Hamilton had floor damage. I certainly didn't see any incidents during the race that might have caused that.

Won's wing won but the wrong wing won for Won! :D Bet you can't say that quickly 3x

Very sad news about Charlie :( He contributed more to F1 safety than anyone else in the history of the sport, his unwavering guiding presence will be sadly missed. Will take at least 3 or 4 people to continue on his work

William's is in a real mess, not sure how or if they will recover from where they are now. Trouble with F1 is the competition doesn't wait for any team no matter how impressive their heritage is

stealthn 03-17-2019 03:41 PM

I thought the race was kind of boring, but it was nice to see Bottas win. Stroll did pretty good with the new team, too bad about Richardo was hoping for more. LeClerc did well, but then again it’s team Ferrari...

Looks like the aero changes didn’t do much for overtaking.

Is Mother's sponsoring the non-stop race coverage again? I didn't see who the sponsor was this year and I want to know what I need to go out and buy to support seeing the race non-stop.

I did not see the mother's logo at the top corner of the screen. So far it appears to not have a sponsor.

(Place tin foil hats now.)

So Hamilton sets a very fast qualifying lap, his car is in park firme, and suddenly he has floor damage at the start of the race? Very strange...

davidtorrey 03-18-2019 05:02 AM

I was pleased to see Lando Norris do well in his debut with McLaren. It appears that the team is finally making some progress. Still outside the points, but a nice showing for a 19 yr. old.

Yea, that floor was damaged during his start. He started so fast the floor was getting damaged so he had to slow down to prevent more floor damage. Yea, that the ticket, sure. Right!

No doubt he is a better driver than all the folks on this board, and he actually did act sorta mature in his support of the team win. I was really hoped to see Ferrari to be able to battle for the lead, but Botas was out front by a mile.

I do like the new extra point for fastest lap. That will add some interesting laps near the end of ever race.

It was really weird seeing a McLaren finish a race without making 12 pit stops.
