I'm perplexed, help me out here.
It's raining, OK, I get that.
Why are they running under the yellow?
If conditions are so bad, why don't the driver's just slow down on their own to what the cars can handle for the given conditions?
So you can't run full out without spinning. Slow down.
Don't they have enough self-discipline to do that?
I don't recall them ever running so many laps under yellow for rain.

I am going to say that running close when racing they just can not see among other things. So much water in the air wipers do not get the job done.

Gee, sounds like the 405 freeway when it rains hard and there's a LOT of cars around during commute time.
What do you do?
SLOW DOWN.

On the sunny side..Alex Zanardi got a Rolex. Bet it means a lot to him...more than the other winners.

It is really amazing how BMW was able to design , produce and install a system that would work for Zanardi but yet removal can be done in a pitstop so other drivers could drive . Zanardi is quite an individual and many can learn from his determination and can do attitude . I am happy for him .

My bad..I was under the impression Zanardi was on the winning BMW team. Evidently, his car fishished 9th in class. So, no storybook ending.

Still pouring out here. I don't care any more about whether a race is called. When Porsche isn't in the top class - my enthusiasm wains considerably.

It is what it is....

I primarily watch endurance racing for the GT classes . Those cars look like what we can buy ( within reason ) and generally provide the best racing . I enjoy the top classes and obviously watch them but GT and GTLM fuels my passion .

Wayner while I agree that bikers in your video have big balls there is a HUGE difference between " wet conditions " and a downpour for 6 hours straight . If you watched the 24 it was readily apparent from multiple in car cameras there was basically zero visibility . Zero visibility in my opinion is not racing , it is just surviving . I was disappointed that there were so many cautions and two red flags but I understood why the officials made the calls that they did . And bravo for any infield fans that stuck it out , I remember one Sebring race where my son and I were wading in 6 - 8 inches of standing water it was not fun

I did my share of zero visibility 8 hour endurance races, as well as many damp ones... but I guess I'm just jealous that they have a roof. I never did

Great Thread though for those of us who were unable to tune in this year.
Thanks for the updates

The problem is not the rain, but the standing water - a few places where you have run off crossing the track makes the car hydroplane. I drove that track years ago in street tires at a glorified DE. Visibility sucks coming into the infield - and the four spots where you get off and onto the banking are just plain wicked - major pucker factor in the wet

Anyone see the nbc interview of Mr Hands recount of getting his GT40 whacked by Porsche in turn 1,when he slowed the rain.t was coming down in buckets.
I see his point, but thats racing, its not just a track day ride.
How do you see it?
Maybe he should give IMSA the bill for car repairs, better yet race off line if he's not comfortable with conditions?
