I whipped up this stump grinder with an old pressure washer dolly and 10" saw blades. Works pretty good obviously best on small rotten stumps but it does the job.

I cut up a crap load of wood yesterday all the ash trees that blew down in the storm. I just put the wood out in the road and all the neighbors pick at it. We quit burning wood years ago. Today I picked up this 72 Land rover series 3. I was really hoping to use it for yard art possibly even fix it up but its too far gone to even pull off the trailer. It was pulling apart winching it on the frame is gone. The guy alread scrapped the hood and doors so that makes it worse. I took some pieces off it and its going to scrap tomorrow. Also finished up a plow I rigged up on a neighbors tractor. I used a linear actuator for the lift so we'll see how that holds up. Its a 24v from a handicapt lift chair so its slow but otherwise seems to work ok.

My electric fans on the F150 would only run on high… actually just one. The other one didn’t work at all. Sounds like a jet engine when it turned on. Anyway, I replaced it today.

Converting all doors in the guest bedroom and bathroom to pocket doors as the inswing doors into the small bathroom were problematic. Had to build out the bedroom wall to accomodate the bathroom switch and outlet boxes.

Installed the J West headlight relay gizmo, and a Kioto H4 headlight to what it look like. It has the same output as my Wagner halogen on the right side.
If I go with brighter bulbs, then I probably need to pull heavier wire. It’s been a couple hours, and I’m thinking about just putting the Wagner halogen back in. A while back I cleaned and serviced a Zebco 33 reel that I had found in the basement at the cabin. A few weeks ago I removed some fishing rods from the boathouse and after researching one of the rods I have discovered that the rod and reel are a combo set!!! The rod is a Zebco 3366-6 model. It is a little rough with some whipping that is frayed or missing so I plan to restore it somewhat but keep the originality if possible. The way the reel secures to the handle is pretty neat. There is a ring in front of the cork part of the handle that you turn and as you turn it, the metal tab pivots to lock the foot of the reel to the reel seat, and it works!!! For better or worse, I TOTALLY relate to this guy doing a hack repair his broken tripod.
In fact, as I was watching, I was yelling at the screen to make a slightly looser sleeve and fill the gap with J-B weld, instead of hoping for a friction fit. 16 years ago when I fabricated a cab on my little tractor, I paneled it with 1/8 plexiglass in thin plywood frames, screwed to the angle iron frame of the cab. I would take the door and three major panels off in the spring and replace them before winter. Over the last decade and a half, some of the plexiglass has cracked and the plywood has degraded, so this fall I decided to replace most of the panels with lexan. I modified the mounting system from through bolts to brackets, then used the old plywood frames as templates to cut the lexan to size. Here are the first pieces test fitted to the right side.

I love everything about Lexan/ pc. Except how easily it scratches.

I had a lot of "fun" in the garage working on my El Camino.
Evidently, 390,000 miles is the "use to destruction limit" for GM, G body speedometer cables. The cheap POS cable gave up the ghost earlier in the week. It can't even go 400K miles after 40 years! :p http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1763330274.jpg This is the instrument cluster stripped down to the just gauges. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1763330274.jpg That little bitty screw, right of center of the photo, is what holds the speed sensor (the large black square) in place to the back of the speedometer. The wires are short, and there is very little access to remove it and even worse put it back in place. That speed sensor is vital for the cruise control, and the fuel injection system I cobbled together back in the late 90s. That is tells the FI to put the transmission's torque converter into full lockup at 50 MPH. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1763330274.jpg All back together after a short test drive. And no, the engine was not on. The gauges sorta freeze once the ignition is turned off. I sent it to a guy that refurbishment it and changed the top speed to 115, and not the idiotic 85 MPH with the giant orange 55 highlighted, like the my original speedometer on the right. And it has a trip odometer! I dug out the original speedometer in case the newer speedometer I put in back in 2007 was bad. It was fine, so the old speedo went back into storage. 115 would be the top end speed and only if a criminal was chasing me shooting at me and he was in an old stock air cooled VW bug. The new cable cost a whopping 40 bucks at the local NAPA. |
