IndyCar @ COTA
I'm about halfway through watching qualifying on my DVR, and so far, their qualifying laps are 15 seconds a lap slower than F1!
To be fair though, the IndyCars don't have power steering. I think I'd die driving that track without power steering. |
F1 is the pinnacle, and the top teams have hundreds of millions spent on them yearly.
|
F1 relies heavily on technology. Indy relies on the driver. Lets see Hamilton drive a car without power steering and see how he does.
|
Apples and Oranges.........Wanna see Indy vs Nascar lap times........
|
Hamilton drive loads of open wheelers without PAS as he came up through the Formulae .Why the hate ? This guy has fed back so much information about these complicated F1 cars to assist developement .

A good perspective: Sideways Cars Star at COTA

Indy cars and F1 cars are similar only because they have four exposed tires .......... that's about it . The comparison is apples and oranges and that's OK as they are two different series with different mind sets of what their series/racing is about . Yes F1 is the pinnacle of racing and technology but most of us can agree the " racing ' sucks . F1 is more about how you qualify vs. how you race . Indy car on the other hand generally is good racing . There are many races where the pole sitter does not win , it is no guarantee you will win just because you grabbed the pole . Pit stops and fuel strategy are still a part of Indy car as it should be in all series in my opinion .
I watch both series but I can honestly say I enjoy Indy car more just because of the competitive racing . Whether it is an oval/road course/street course there is a lot of passing and that's what the fans want to see . Sure it's great when your favorite driver or team wins but most fans want to see the series/drivers championships go down to the last few races of the season . And I'm pretty sure the sponsors putting up the $$$ to support feel the same way . I am a fan of Rossi and will be pulling for the NAPA sponsored car today but I'm sure whoever wins I will have enjoyed the race . |
Other factors, Indycars have a rev limit and F1 has DRS.
Compare an incar video of Indycar versus F1 and tell me who appears to be working harder. Turn 1 is going to be fascinating on lap 1 today. |

the F1 drivers usually do pretty good. IMO |
So far Indycar has been more enjoyable to watch
|
Looking forward to seeing Felix 'Fastest Guy You've Never Heard Of" Rosenqvist again today.
|
Two rookie Swedes in the field?
|
The only spoiler to a great race day is having Paul Tracy as(s) a commentator.....I'll just never forget his abrasive personality and bonehead moves as a driver.........
|
I think Williams should move to IndyCar. They'd at least have a chance there...

Indycar, that's just like spec miata, right?

Hell of a race with a surprise ending. Not going to be a spoiler for those who recorded....I agree..better for the spectator than F1.

I know it's apples and oranges, and the Williams team is in a death spiral, but Stroll qualified the Williams at 1:35.xxx last year; Will Power turned a lap in the 1:46's to claim pole for todays race, and the slowest lap ever turned by any F1 car is 1:42.7 by HRT in 2012. Edit - but Indy car is WAY faster than Moto GP. Marquez has the pole record at 2:02. |
