266 makes it faster than a Bugatti Veyron. It makes it faster than ANY current production car.
The fact that it can do it in a standing mile is mind-blowing. The fact that it can do with without all-wheel drive, special tires, or the active aero the Bugatti has borders on not believable. It took the Bugatti people years of expensive engineering to wring 250 mph (which it takes OVER a mile to get up to) out of a car, and someone else without the engineering budget manages to beat them simply by putting a ridiculously huge engine in a Ford GT!

Ah, but the Veyron has been developed enough to be civilized enough to use as a daily driver, something I doubt this GT could do. |

I'd think with the cars that are capable of over 200mph, 225, or even 250, the tire manuf would have to start making some new tires that won't fall aparts at those speeds.

It's easily a daily driver. I have an acquaintance with a Heffner massaged twin-turbo GT (although not 1900hp) and it is pretty docile when you're not mashing the loud pedal.

Even at Indianapolis that's pretty much impossible. 266 exceeds human reaction time. This is why every racing series that does ovals has some means for slowing the cars down.

What? Fighter jets in dog fights can exceed 5 or 600 or even 700 mph at times. And well in excess of 1000mph in a merge.

Actually, the engine is only 5.4L, not even a 350. Definitely not ridiculously huge. Just some huge turbos putting out close to 3bar (41psi) of boost.

$40-50k on top of the price of the GT. I think the GT was supposed to have been ~$135k when it came out, but I suspect that it went for more than list price. I don't know, maybe I'm wrong.

I think the problem is that it's not set up for the forces that a banked oval at 250mph would supply. Not to mention, didn't some CART guys drive on a big oval in Dallas and start blacking out because of the G-forces involved.

I think cars in a roundy round are on a smaller scale. Up in the air, you've got less stuff to run into. Also, those guys have G-Suits to keep the blood distributed.
