And that sums up the entire system of the stock market. I call it the "Another sucker principle". You are gambling that someone thinks it is worth more than what you paid.

You are gambling that a stock will be worth more than what you paid plus inflation (ex Divs.).
In aggregate, that has turned out to be a VERY good gamble. |

Stock value has never been a real measure of worth of anything. people jump on the bandwagon , Stocks get inflated.. Then some people cash in.. get rich even... and at some point stock deflates.. and people who were last to buy into it... well, they loose. Happened with Tulips back in the days in Amstedam Happened with L&H in Flanders.. Gold prices Stock value is only relevant to the owner, at time of buying or selling it. All the rest, is virtual money , it's not real! It's simply based on "expectation" and expectation quite often is set way to high. In the end , the only thing that matters, is the value when a company is bought up by another one , because companies typically do not buy on emotion to flip, but buy when they think they can - do a bargain - expect future profit to cover the purchase price - Need something that company has (Tech/IP, real estate, subsidiaries) Might as well invest in a ponzi scheme.. and then state "it must be good, because look at home much money I made so far" when some as an early investor , you managed to get good money out of the scheme.. Has Tesla ever managed to make a profit on par with all the investments they have taken to get this far? nope. Revenu.. yes Profit... very poor results You can add up all the quarters with a profit.. and subtract all the quarters with a loss. and there has not ever been a significant profit, ever. No share holder has ever received a dividend. ever. They claim they use all profits for growth.. but in fact they have grown only by the good grace of new investment capital...

The issue with most of the tech stocks, lots of shares but only a very small number are able to be traded. And a lot of demand for the stock. This is the Amazon syndrome, from back in the late 1990's.

Tesla has a Market CAP of 5 times the combined value of GM and Ford. And has never has never turned a full year profit. And sold World-wide one third the cars Ford alone sold in the USA.

Is this the part where someone explains there is no relationship whatsoever to stock price and profitability? There are companies with valuations of 8 to 10 significant digits that have never turned a profit, and probably never will.
