Well, I've been in situations (studio) where he's been around.. for whatever reason, to cut a track, hangout (be an anoying alcoholic) or say hello to a producer that he wants to use on a VH record....Whatever..hehe.. he's a weirdo..but it's "him"
Some reasons why he sounds differentt.. 1.) yeah Amps may have something to do with it sure, but not as much as his ears do.. 2.) he's going deaf.. his ears are different, so, you sound different to others but similar to yourself.. 3.) Recording (digital) and Mastering. 4.) The more "involved he bacame with their records, the more he tried to "undo" what he already has done or does.. he's a strange guy 5.) He can easily re-create His tone, he still has those old amps..Plexi Marshalls and small fenders.. champ and deluxe reverb..black face.. 6.) MXR distortion II.. that was his biggest tool. I got one from Ron Kayfield (waysted.. good friend of Ozzy's) supposed to be Eddies old one, that Ozzy stole as a prank and freak Eddie out, well, Ozzy thouoght it was funny watching Eddie scramble looking for his Box. as good as Eddie is, he gets Obsessive about his belongings..this thing has a Sound that's unmistakable when ran through a JCM 800 or a plexi.. it's like... "oh my god!" that's the sound....hehee..so, there's not many of these aroundat all, so, they're really hard to come by.. 7.) BOSS Distortion (orange).. this is the Fair warning "unchained" tone, he fell in love with this little Orange box for a while.. he still has one in his setup I think.... cool box.. the older ones have different parts.. sounds different.. that harsh but fat sound.. 8.) He's bored, been bored for years, listen to those later records they suck, let's face it, he's a great guitar player, but that's what he is a guitar player.. period.. if you ever meet Frank Ferrone (Nikki Sixx) ask him about Eddie.. he'll spit on you!.. hhe.. he may lick it off too.. so, watch out.. Oh and Nikki Sixx looks like a shark when you talk to him, he has the most Blank stare of anyone that I've ever been introduced to..looks like a frigging shark.. 9.)Eddie has problems hearing what he's doing.. he plays so fast sometimes, he loseshimself. He's brilliant, but he is a task master.. so, he loses alot of stuff that he records.. he never saves anything. If he likes something he keeps it, he's paranoid about someone hearing something ****ty that was left on a reel, or in Pro-tools and making fun of him behind his back.... that's where the mean alcoholic comes out..it's not a fun sight to see..

Agreed on the cabinet..the head is great, but the 5150 cab sucks. Any Marshall/Mesa type cabinet will do as long as they have some Celestion Vintage 30s...I play through a Rivera with V30s and it sounds awesome.

How is the XXX head? I heard that you can run EL34's and 6L6's at the same time in it. That's the George Lynch model right? I heard that it is essentially a 5150 with an extra channel

The XXX absolutely rocks..it's a mix between a Recto and some other heads, but it does have a tone of it's own. I like the fact that the distorsion is comparable to a Rectifier, but the clean channel is very clean considering the Mesa has no clean tone.

Thats the only thing i've never liked about Mesa stuff. You cant get a clean tone. For my clean stuff, i use my 1966 Fender Deluxe Reverb. I just recently got a hold of some NOS GE tubes for it and it sounds great. I'm debating putting an overdrive circuit in it, so i can get a little crunch out of the amp. Torres Engineering makes a kit for it. Know anything about it?

It's a small combo amp, ideal for blues or folk.
Here's a pic of it.

If your playing bkues.. well, anything will work.. I prefer the Twwed Bassman's and the blackface deluxe.. but the sleeper amo is the vibroverb with 1 15" speaker. I've used this amp before and couldn't believe how thick it sounded.. Stevie Ray used one for a while. Crossfire is the Quintessentila sound of the Vibroverb. Don't mod your deluxe, keep it as is.. just use a pedal.. like one of those Chandler pedals.. (find one, they don't exist anymore) or a Boss Super Overdrive, if your playing blues..Or just geta Soldano and solve all of your problems with one amp !!hehe.. they're amazing..
