I've got a Gibson Les Paul Junior Lite. Its got a natural finish. Its got the double cut away. It's also refered to as a 58' Les Paul Special Junior reissue. I also own a Fender Precision bass Sunburst finish.

I hope he stays clean this time. I really like the guy. great guy to sit and talk to.
Well, they all were drunks to a point, Dave was just a violent drunk. I remember seeing them back in 82, at the Wiskey a Go Go when Dave was still in the band.. Have you been following any of the New MetallicA stuff going on?? New album, new bass player. From whats being said. The new albums songs are 7 to 8 min long, no ballads, not so radio friendly, but we will see.

I lost interest in Metallica after the Black Album.
I hated the aptly titled "Load" |

I've been playing for 25 years, since I was eleven. I started playing seriously the day Randy Rhoads died. That was 3/82. My gear list is:
- 3 custom Warmoth Super strats, these guitars are the ones that made me sell most of my collection of original San Dimas strat headstock USA Charvels. I used the $$$$ from those to buy my first 911. If I had to sell every guitar I had except one, I would keep my black Warmoth, plays good and is the best sounding guitar I have ever played. - 2 USA San Dimas Charvels, a 1984 pointy headstock model and a 1980 strat headstock. - 2 Gibson Les Pauls, a 1971 Goldtop and a 1980 Tobacco Sunburst Custom - 1966 Fender Sunburst Strat, bone stock except changed high e string tuner - 1966 Fender Sunburst P-Bass, bone stock - Takamine Santa Fe steel string acoustic/electric - Alhambra nylon string acoustic/electric made in Spain - 3 Marshall amps, JTM 45 reissue head modified by Mark Cameron, 100w plexi reissue head modded by Mark Cameron, stock 50w JCM800 head. Two original Orange 4x12's and a Bogner 4x12. The Mark Cameron modded amps are exact copies of the Jose Arredondo mod that was put into Van Halens early Marshall plexis. Those amps sound so good, I sold my Dual Rectifier, my Bogner Ecstasy and my original 68 Plexi 100watt after I got them. - Assorted cool pedals, NO MULTI-FX units. - Pretty cool home digital studio with a vintage API mic pre amp that makes my recorded guitar sound on digital sound as good as any 2" 24-track I've ever recorded in. Atomic Punks are cool. Now with Russ Parrish on guitar, they have their best "Eddie" yet in my opinion. Who are your guys favorite players? |

In Atomic Punks, "Eddie #1" was Bart Walsh. Bart left the Punks to join David Lee Roths touring band about 3 years ago. "Eddie #2" was Brian Young. He left the Punks about a year ago to join David Lee Roths band for that tour Dave did with Sammy Hagar. "Eddie #3" is Russ Parrish. Russ was an instructor at Musicians Institute, and played guitar in Rob Halfords band Fight and recorded 3 albums with Fight. He makes WAY MORE money in Atomic Punks than he did while touring the world in Fight, and they were signed to a major label.

I'm not sure exactly what is done to the amps electronically. Mark Cameron used to work at a store called A&V Music in Huntington Beach. The owner of A&V bought the entire collection of amps from Jose's family after Jose passed away. I'm sure you remember all the very early Van Halen interviews where he talks about his amp being modified by Jose Arredondo. Well, Mark went through all of the old Marshalls that Jose owned and found one that had the dead on Van Halen tone. He tore it apart and figured out the modifications and it is perfect. This amp was not "close" to the early EVH sound, it WAS the early EVH sound, dead on. I have owned probably a dozen stock plexis and have had variacs and Hot Plates and some of them were close enough to where you imagine if you had the right studio tweaks, the exact pickup, the correct tubes and the wind was blowing the right direction, it would have sounded like EVH. These Cameron mods in the right Marshall can nail the EVH early tone. Read about them at harmony-central.com under User Reviews-Guitar Amps-Mark Cameron. Another amp that nails the EVH tone is the Mojave Peacemaker. Awesome!

Some of my favs not in order, except for the first one of course
Randy Rhoads Joe Satriani Steve Vai John Petrucci Dave Mustaine Jamez Hetfield Scott Ian Dimebag SRV Robert Johnson Jeff Beck Jerry Cantrell Eric Clapton Al DiMeola Eddie Van Halen Eric Johnson Gary Howe Steve Morse Hank Sherman BB King Allen Holdsworth Buddy Guy Nile Rogers Santana I could go on forever. Well, if you stopped liking Met after the Black album, get ready to get your ass kicked. The new stuff is suppost to be hard, heavy, kinda back to the old days of their playing in a way. Robert Trujillo is the new bass player, he from Ozzy, did Jerry Cantrells Degragation Trip , he was with Suicidal Tendences, and Infectious Grooves. Blows Jason off the face of the earth imo.

it's not his amps.. it's his hands..trust me, I know...
and yes he's a weird M-F'er.. constantly diking with something, can't sit still, if he's not tearing a guitar apart, he'll take apart the television or your cell phone, or the refrigerator or your car, he'll give you advice on why he likes Winstons and not Kools or Marlboroughs ..... he's not very nice either unless he wants or needs something....or wants to borrow your car to get smokes..

Eddie plays and sounds like Eddie. It is his feel and his technique and no one could ever duplicate it exactly. But to say that it is not his amps completely ignores the FACT that Eddie himself no longer has that incredible tone that he had in the early days. Why? Have his hands changed? No, his amps have changed. When you hear Eddie on the Hagar era stuff up to the modern day, you can still tell it's Eddie playing, its just that his tone no longer sounds as cool. If I plugged into EVH's amps in the early days, I wouldn't immediately be able to PLAY just like Eddie. I would still play like myself, I would just be playing like me, but with a tone or amp SOUND very close to Eddies. The differences in bottom end, overdrive, harmonics, and clarity is much more amp and guitar dependent than player dependent. This is something that many people get confused about. If Eddie had played thru Zakk Wylde's or Metallicas rig on the early recordings, he would have still played like Eddie, he just would have had a way heavier tone. If Zakk had used Eddies rig for the Ozzy recordings, his tone would not have been heavy enough. Does this difference make sense to people? This is absolutely accurate, TRUST ME I KNOW. LOL. This is what I do for a living. I have personally discussed this exact same thing with Matt Bruck who has been Eddie's tech for years. Matt says that when Eddie pulls out the old refurbished plexi, it sounds so close to the old sound that it gives Matt goosebumps. Keep in mind that Matt hears Eddie play constantly. Eddie's taste in tone however has changed over the years, and Eddie no longer really digs the old tone as it is too "one-dimensional". |

Thats very true, Eddie seems to have sort of a chorused out, compressed sound nowadays, (or at least the last we heard of him). Nowhere near as cool as the "brown sound"
Kind of a shame that the DLR reuinion thing will probably never happen. I would have loved to see EVH pull out the red and white striped "Frankenstein" and the old Marshalls. I really don't care too much for the Peavey 5150. Don't get me wrong, i have have Peaveys over the years and they are nearly indestructible. But they lack in tone. |

Hey Jared,
I was talking to Brian Young from the Atomic Punks (who now plays with DLR) the other night as a matter of fact, and I can tell you that he has Eddie's tone nailed down to a T. He uses a 5150 head and a few old pedals like Eddie..that's it! You just really have to learn how to tweek it. I actually played through a 5150 head for years and had a kickass sound, but I switched over to a XXX head because I needed 3 channels, and the sound is great, you'll have to come to one of the shows and check it out. I'll try to get all the details on the setup from Brian to get that EVH tone. Later! |
