Mrs. Noah took me to see the movie tonight. It's a great story, as long as you don't take the racing scenes too seriously, particularly of LeMans or Daytona/Fontucky. But even a non-race fan like Mrs. Noah really enjoyed it. Funny to see the fateful 1966 race seem to only include GT40s, the three cars from the Scuderia and about 20 different Porsches. Nice to see a couple shots of Mulholland Drive and Highway in it.

I enjoyed the feel of the movie very much. It reminded me of that time and how it felt to be living in that time, when anything seemed possible. The photography was excellent, and the visuals superb. I have to say Christian Bale did an excellent job portraying the energy some still carried after WW2, and There were a few times where I felt a some of the charm of Carroll Shelby emanating from Matt Damon.

Its not going to win any prizes for the racing or the way they filmed the gearshifts, but honestly I don't think you can often expect that. Those were days when charisma, brains and raw talent could mix with empirical knowledge to get you to the top.

It was Young Tom Edison meets Seabiscuit, with cars. Maybe a tiny bit of The Right Stuff thrown in. The inevitable ending got me.

I cannot go back to the sixties, but this was a very nice visit for me, and I often look back at those days with the kind of golden glowing aura that this movie provides. If you are going in to analyze the accuracy of every moment, don't go. If you believe in the magic of the right people at the right place at the right time in history, that is this movie..

Exactly this for me as well. I was born in the late 60s but have an unnatural attraction to the period, especially 60s California. I'll see the movie a few times just to bathe in that glow.

Thanks for all the comments, folks!

It's playing here in town....will probably go tomorrow and see it.

Hopefully won't be as packed as on a Sunday showing.

As a baby boomer, I grew up in this era and am looking forward to the blast from the past!

What I am getting is that the movie is good enough that the racing fans will put up with the hocus pocus driving antics, when you know it would be all focus in the car. It has enough driving excitement that the non-racing fan feels like they know how it was to finally give it to il Commendatore

It looks like he took some lessons from Steve McQueen’s movie Le Mans. He should have taken more, if you take a look at how he created scenes of the drivers in their cars. Go back and watch the documentary about how the movie was made that was referenced earlier in the thread.

I don’t know why Hollywood does this crap, it would only take one car guy to be hired as a technical consultant to get rid of all the bull****.

Great movie for the nostalgic crowd and very entertaining without being ridiculous.

That is the litmus test of an excellent movie.
If it were a boring ass documentary, I would not bother seeing it.
I don't give a shiit abut racing history.
But, it sounds like a fun movie, so I am heading out to see it now !

Saw it today.
Over-all a good movie with good acting...especially by Christian Bale.

Also...a 2.5 hr movie is too dang long!

^^^ What a stupid article... I'm trying to understand the purpose???

"But what I saw is a devastating picture of the lack of diversity that permeated the industry in the 1960s."

No mention of the high morbidity rate of the drivers in the entire article! Privileged?

Lets retell history to better suit today's PC culture...

Warning... Rather cool mostly driven by men cars below.

I'm guessing most of the exotic cars in the movie were replicas. They're just too valuable to risk damage.

In that Matt Damon scene above, that was the first time I've seen a 356 driven like a fast car.
Makes me look at them differently now. Hopefully the cut and paste king doesn't chime in here.

Saw it Thursday night and the place was full of old farts, including me. Was Leo Beebe that much of a slimeball, or was it artistic license?

I'm sure artistic license.
You need to create some drama to sustain a 2.5 hour biopic.
I thought the drama was brilliantly executed ...Shelby vs. Ford vs. Miles.

I do wonder if Miles was cheated out of the victory deliberately due to PR.
Even if not, it added to the drama. Bravo!

I wonder where Matt Damon learned his Texas accent?

Saw it today. I bet a Factory Five’s website is going to have a lot of hits thanks to this movie.
