I think the new designs look great. The current baby blue belly looks very dated.

It looks like Boeing is doing the design proposals, so maybe the *******s should get all upset at Boeing.

I'm not a fan of the light blue on the bottom of the current planes and there are a few other details that bother me about the existing design. I'd be curious to see what else they came up with, as I'm dead sure those four designs are not all of them.

FWIW, I am not a fan of any Raymond Loewy design, so hanging onto that distinction means nothing to me. His car designs were hideous, especially the Avanti, every Studebaker ever made and all of his one-offs.

I pretty much agree with Island again here (holy shiit, I must be ill!!! :eek: :D), but would add that our current Prez is only in office to, "make liberal heads explode", (any heads, really, other than his own, which he pays certain women, and probably some men, to do for him), on the largest stage he could imagine for himself. The fuselage and empennage match that of the -400 and -300 that preceded it, just lengthened a little bit. The -400 and -300 passenger airplanes only differ from the earlier -200 and -100 in that they sport the extended upper deck. As an aside, all freighters retained the original shorter upper deck, right up through the current -8F. The -8 Intercontinental, the passenger version from which AF1 will be made, has the same "shape" as every 747 that preceded it. The only changes in the -8 (other than being lengthened a bit) are new wings, engines, and landing gear.

I started my career on the 747 in 1980, working on the major body section jigs, as a backfill for folks being reassigned to the then new 767. The exact same body section jigs on which I cut my tool engineering teeth are still in use today, building 747-8's. The same ones that have been in use since the late 1960's, building every 747 ever made.

Adding 29 feet in an area in which the current paint scheme is no more than a dead level stripe down the side of the fuselage will make it look... pretty much exactly as it does today, only 29 feet longer.

Absolutely! I've never had a problem getting along with people I often disagree with, as long as they have a sense of humor and can take zingers in stride when they are flinging their own (even though I know you tire of the constant barrage of jackassery at times :D).

AF One would have a whole array of defensive capabilities (flares etc.) & would also be armoured.

I doubt a normal military rifle could penetrate either aircraft. (5.56 or 7.62)

It depends on the requirements, round, impact velocity, multi-hit, etc. Also, armor technology is constantly evolving.

When I was the Chief Government Pilot at the Sikorsky Factory all Marine One H-3's went through retrofit and heavy maintenance there...they call them "White Tops".

They were in a separate area and where guarded 24/7, even on the ramp. I never looked inside!

There is a new Marine One in work.
