In helmet Bluetooth - Happy Fathers Day

For Fathers day my kids got me a Sena 10S.

I spent the last 1/2 hour installing it on my Bell 'Adventure' helmet. Super easy to install and set up. The Bell even has pockets in the cheek pads for the speakers to slip in.

Now I need to get out for a ride and see how it functions on the road and off.

Any experience with this unit or similar?

Can’t help here. Nothing in my ears but foam earplugs. Take phone calls while riding? Nope.

I hear you. I've never had anything like this before and may hate it.

But the kids gave it to me so....

I have the same rig. I used the smaller adhesive MIC that sticks to the inside of the chin guard. Found the boom MIC a little cumbersome and too Buck Rogers looking.

I use earplugs when I ride so I can't really take a call when riding as I can't hear at anything above 50 MPH. The bluetooth is easy to use and was a breeze to pair with my Ducati's on-board bluetooth system. You can listen to the radio or tunes off your phone. Toggle wheel on the unit makes it easy to adjust volume, advance or back up your song line-up, or take and make phone calls.

Having said all of that, I don't use it for anything other than the intercom function as it connects to other SENA's in range. When I'm on my bike I don't care to listen to music and I sure don't want to talk on the phone.

I tour exclusively with just one other guy who I have known my whole life and trust not to do anything stupid on the road. We both run the same SENAs and use it only when we are touring together. I like to be able to chat with him on the road and warn/be warned of upcoming road conditions/fuel stops/cops/coffee breaks etc. Have used it on two long distance (4000+ mile trips) with him. it really adds to the trip being able to communicate with your buddy.

Battery life is outstanding (10-12 hours) but range falls off beyond 1 mile or out of line-of-sight. Would be nice if range could be boosted. If you have a charging port on your bike you can charge as you ride and still use the rig as it come with a short cord and a long one. Highly recommend it for touring with your buddy.

Wouldn't want it if the wife was the riding pillion. She is painful enough in the passenger seat of the 911. Can't imagine giving her a direct line into my ear on the bike. On the road I've seen guys with the wife riding b!tch; SENAs on both helmets. I always think to myself, "Poor bastard."

Makes good sense to use while touring, I suppose. Hours on the slab may go by easier with music. My rides these days are a few hours at a time when I can slip away on nice days. Peace and quiet are part of the experience. But for touring with friends, makes good sense.
