I had the Stuka dive bomber. First flight, I yo yo’d it up and down until it dove straight into the ground. There was no fixing it.

Not the sexiest plane out there but purdy dang fast for the design, clipped wings do have their advantages.

Some shots from my LongEZ run today. Short, but fun to get out on such a beautiful day.

Our flight track, sorta looks like a whale.

This is exactly the amount of stick force to fly the Long. Thumb and fore-finger is all you need.

These Images Of An F-22 Raptor’s Crumbling Radar Absorbent Skin Are Fascinating

The photos are a reminder of just how much work goes into keeping the F-22’s skin ready for combat and the amazing science behind its stealthy design.

Much of what makes up and lies beneath the F-22 Raptor’s silver skin remains a tightly guarded secret.
The aircraft's outer mold-line is a mosaic of radar-absorbent coatings and radar transparent and radar
defeating composite structures that combine to allow the Raptor to remain aerodynamically efficient
while also largely invisible to fire control radars. All this takes a lot of work to maintain and many of
these applications start degrading shortly after they are applied, with friction from high-speed flight,
crushing G forces, and the elements accelerating that process. As such, one of the costliest aspects
of operating F-22s—and flying this aircraft is extremely expensive with an average flight hour cost of
about $60k—is keeping its stealthy skin up to par. This also is a major contributor to its fairly abysmal
mission capable rate of around 50 percent.

suspect that area is where there is the most pressure during high speed flight?
like a speed bump for oncoming air?

Carrier tests part of Operation Credible Sport
designed to see how they can do Sierra Hotel Near vertical landings with a C130 with hairbrain idea to land one INSIDE a football statium to rescue the Iran US embassy hostages

They also landed a U2 on a carrier for some other occasions

Neat stuff URY. Quick video.

Great idea for Sea State One, day ops...COD for the win in bad seas, night ops and being able to park aircraft on the roof.

A friend of mine was a C-1 Trader pilot out of North Island. Radial engine, carrier ops, which the pilots loved: Instant go-go.

Well, any landing you can walk away from is a good one.

”Any landing you can walk away from is a good one”.

(It was first penned by Gerald R. Massie in 1944 after the crash-landing of his B-17 while serving as a photographer.)

I guess that’s also true if you end up in power lines.

^^ You are correct sir. They needed a cherry picker to rescue the pilot and passenger who were not injured.

Some are now reporting the p63 had impacted a drone prior to hitting the b17..and he was trying to restart engine when he hit it.

Vague yt vid. Shows nothing but a camera smudge..sounds bs to be.. if he really had gone through a drone his engine would t cut out without smashing his prop.big Ic engine does not cut out from a drone.. and i would expect the pilot to just dead stick it in so close to airfield if it had..

Looking into converting my old mil helmet for GA use in the VE. Anyone have experience or pointers on the BOSE conversion kit?

bug -

I don't think it is much more than splicing in the proper connector to the helmet. All of my flying was with a mask, vice boom mike, but I believe the mike connects to helmet and the helmet connects to AC avionics, is that correct? I would think if you want to keep it the way it is you could make a connector that bridges the connection. I gave one of my old helmets to a buddy and he did this.
