As long as it keeps moving.

Houston floods in 2001 were from a tropical storm that stalled off the coast, dumped a SHlT TON of rain in like 12 hours.

The storm the hit NJ and NYC in 2012 was just a tropical storm, Sandy, and it caused a lot of damage.

I just remembered the forum, a lot of locals on here.

Main Abaco Discussion Forum - Abaco Forum

I am also seeing news reports that there are bodies floating everywhere around the Abacos.

I also read that for whatever reason the Government in the Bahamas are trying to keep the death toll quiet. I have no idea why?

Finally, the looting and lawlessness is starting to become the main news there. I understand desperation from what I am reading there is nothing there, nothing at all, no water no food nothing.

No stores, nothing. Relief is coming in very slowly.

Local Militia blocks road to stop looters.

Local militia blocking the road to stop looters in Abaco | Bahamaspress.com

BP BREAKING| We are learning that only one police officer is stationed in Treasure Cay, Abaco.

A plane landed there and was robbed immediately. There are reports of deaths far in excess of what is being reported.

We are also learning of reports that, when survivors land in Nassau, they’re being told not to speak about all the deaths and seeing the many dead bodies all across Abaco.

Photos shown here of a local Abaco militia blocking the road to stop looters in the area.

"Bodies floating everywhere" is OK for a news report, but it isn't really a body count. I think the government is expected to be accurate, and will report deaths as they are confirmed and recorded.
Obviously, I am not one to jump on the bandwagon of every conspiracy theory that comes along. I expect the truth to shake out in the next few days. Until then everybody should just relax.

In the wake of Hurricane Dorian, more than 100 people have been rescued in the Bahamas

Quote:
(CNN)At least 100 survivors of Hurricane Dorian have been rescued in the Bahamas' northern islands, as international teams sent small planes and helicopters to reach those stranded and feed the displaced.
"Our emergent priority is to get the critically wounded out and help the government of the Bahamas get the infrastructure back up so it's safe, sanitary and livable -- at least on a temporary basis -- for those folks," Capt. James Passarelli, chief of staff of the US Coast Guard's 7th District, told CNN on Thursday.
Teams from Los Angeles and Fairfax, Virginia, are also helping survivors on the hard-hit Abaco Islands and Grand Bahama, the US Agency for International Development said.
Quote:
A British naval vessel has joined the effort, distributing food and water, and clearing streets of debris, Bahamian Minister of National Security Marvin Dames said Wednesday. About 60,000 people may be in dire need of food relief, the World Food Programme has said.
Death toll said to be up to 20 now.

I am still coming to terms with that prediction. On Friday morning last week Inwas preparing to hit directly by a Cat 4 or 5 storm.

3 days later it completely missed me.

Lesson learned? You WANT to be listed as the point of landfall 4-5 days out, that guarantees it will miss you.

First it was hitting Cape Canaveral which was 100 miles north of me, then Vero Beach 30 miles North, the Jupiter 30 miles South. So frustrating.

The beach house we stayed on had a rear garden that backed onto the Atlantic Ocean, front door steps joined a small road and then the other side of that was the harbour sea. Property elevation was max 15-20 ft above sea level, house is mostly gone!

What the wind didn't blow away, the sea surge would have taken.

I believe NOAA will post flyover imagery here, when it's available.

https://storms.ngs.noaa.gov/

They did for Irma.

It may take a long time to clean up, but it will be done. I just recall the photos of Galveston after the 1900 storm. Looked very similar.

You should live in tornado country. We get a warning a couple of minutes before the destruction starts. And it may wipe out your neighbor's house and not touch yours, or vice versa - or may not develop at all.

UPDATE On Brian Redmond.

THEY ARE ON DICKIES CAY/MAN O WAR.
The last update may have been MISLEADING.
WE STILL HAVEN'T BEEN IN CONTACT WITH THE M. Only a report that they are alive received Tuesday morning. We don't know what condition they are in or the status of the water and food supplies.
Obviously we are very concerned and want them home as soon as possible. I have been in touch with the US EMBASSY in NASSAU this morning. The information for the location of the house they are/were in is:
Sent to the Coast Guard

Help needed for an older couple on Dickies Cay. Man O War. Brian and Marion Redman
26°35'32"N 77°00'24"W
To help rescuers locate them see the attached photos of the house they are in. This belongs to our friend Howard Cherry.
Please share with any one that you think may have access to this part of the ABACOS. NEWS CREWS, HELICOPTER, SEA PLANE OR BOAT.
My phone number is 772-713-7322
Thank you.
