![]() FWIW, I DD a TJ, '04 unlimited so that means longer wheel base but b4 the 4 door option. Love it, but honestly will say it's rototiller technology compared to the newer offerings. Likely your wife will prefer a more civilized DD that looks the part? I say that only because my wife hates driving my TJ without perfect weather and small distances. Edit - a limited set of circumstances for a death wobble, normally some worn joints, misbalanced tires, loose connections. I had a DW in my TJ a couple times until I found a lower control arm was toast...at 120K miles. Easy solution. Last edited by JavaBrewer; 10-30-2019 at 06:04 PM.. |

My Death Wobble happened in a new 4 door with 12k on the clock driving over a bumpy freeway transition for some construction.

I had an 83 CJ7 around 1987. Loved it very raw. Only mods were 33" tires and a Kenwood stereo.

I love my 2002 TJ. Cheap, rugged fun and easy to diy.

My CJ7 is fun to drive on the farm, but it is as comfortable as a tractor ! |

My wife, and I had a really nice 1985 CJ7 when we were first married (1988). It was alot of fun locally around town, but a real handful on small county roads, or on the highway, or in wind, or on snow/ice. I chose to drive our Dodge Caravan in snow unless it was deep.
A freind had a 97 TJ that we would occasionally commute to work in, and it brought back memories of not being able to hear the radio, fogged up windows, and a cold breeze on the side of my head, in what could only be called eratic tracking down the road. |

I just saw a very nice 2001 tj auctioned at Mecum. It was stock and all original with 42k on it. Sold for 17k. So they do hold their value.

Any solid axle vehicle can develop the death wobble when the front end is worn out. My F250 is notorious for it.

I only brought up the death wobble because it just happened to me with a Jeep with only 12K on the clock.

I recommend a TJ, they're more civilized and you can actually take longer trips without being too uncomfortable with the suspension.

I'd go CJ6 or CJ8 over all TJ, YJ Jeeps. Or go with a Toyota FJ40 and laugh at jeeps all day.
