I don't think there is much of a market there. Really, in California you want an "Urban Assault Vehicle" ?

I have to agree. I think a local delivery type vehicle, something like a this Dodge, would make more practical sense as an electric. I don't suppose there is a big market for them, but I don't see a big market for a goofy looking pickup either.

I see a big market for the man jewelry truck. I would like to see the ratio of work trucks vs. Manolo Blahniks. My guess is 70/30 jewelry/work.

Local delivery vans should be a big market for Amazon and especially USPS.

Yeah, an EV delivery van makes so much sense for UPS FedEx and USPS. Dunno about AMZN as their drivers are freelancers so AMZN probably doesn't care about their costs or emissions too much.

The Cybertruck offends me. Teslas have always been sleek, efficient, nicely designed. Now this blocky thing that looks worse than a Hummer H2, will be far less efficient that it could have been, and almost looks designed to kill pedestrians and other vehicle occupants in collisions.

I haven't heard anything about that. Do you have a link? I know USPS is going to have a new contract for new truck purchases in 2020. Mahindra, Karsan, VT Hackney, and Oshkosh are in the running to replace the aging 140,000 vehicle fleet. I think VT is the only EV. Oshkosh is gas. The other 2 are hybrid.

this is after that - said to be before 2030

for the 2020 thing, USPS is saying they may split the order 4 ways

BTW, Amazon supposedly has an order in with Rivian...

While Amazon doesn't own/operate the delivery service, they negotiated very low prices for the contractors for the vans.

As far as electric, it makes sense. "short range", less than 150 miles, delivery route and they can recharge overnight. Especially if the area has very low electric rates.

UPS does not air condition vans, even in Houston!

Agree with both. In the Midwest the brodozer ratio is very high. Everybody has to have a 3/4 ton diesel to haul around their lack of masculinity.

I can’t think of a better application for EV than an urban delivery van.

Oshkosh.... Talk about a monopoly... Don't get me wrong. I love me a hemtt...
I actually think this llv's are amazing trucks for never having a overhaul program. They literally only get fixed when they break on the side of the road. Old tech that can't be replicated today. Sure they catch fire for no reason, no a.c., and a gear shifter that will automatically drop into reverse if you let it idle.... LOL

But to get that level of 4 decade reliability at that price point from a hybrid. LOL

A small diesel would make sense though....

I did a check first to see if this had been published. Known for a while.

With Investors and Amazon’s Giant Order, Rivian is Ready to Launch
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.trucks.com/2019/09/30/rivian-electric-trucks-ready-launch/amp/

In short, Amazon is going to ship it's own stuff via electric trucks and eliminate the middle-man.

I'm actually making prototype components for this right now. The Amazon order put the project into hyperdrive.
