While at palmetto state armory (local gun store/range) I ended up purchasing a SIG p210... wow what beautiful gun..everything is put together so well..

My wife just purchased a Canik tp9 elite combat... great looking gun and as soon as she held it she knew that she wanted it...

We are only a few weeks into range shooting, but let me tell ya....
I think we're addicted....

As far as price between 9mm n 45...
45s are about $100 more for bulk 1000...I guess at the end of the day it's a drop in the bucket...

Thanks everyone for the great advice and input...
Really looking forward to becoming part of our local shooting community..

As a side...
Both my wife and I were Marines...
We never really liked shooting at the range while in, (I was only a sharpshooter..while she was an expert, so I have a reason for not enjoying it...haha) so it seems strange how additive this has become in such a sort time
A Swiss made Sig p210 or the American made P210?

@Tabs...
Unfortunately the American p210 standard...didn't see the value of the 210 target, considering what I intend to be using it for...

The Swiss n Germany 210s are a little to rich for my blood...

The American version seems to be pretty well made..I haven't had a chance to put any rounds through it yet...I'll definitely keep you posted on my thought( not that I know to much about the sport)...

The guys at our local range assured me that the p210 is better in every way to the 1911(exception being a custom build)

The p210 is the pinacle of 9mm autos. The only knock is it is a sa and not a da. It is the inside rail system that makes it rock solid. I have not seen the American version but my guess is thst it is outstanding.

The other 9mm auto that is outstanding is the Cz 75 sp01 and p01 series. The CZ uses the same inside rail system and is a rock solid da auto.the Shadow 2 has the same foward grip that the p210 has. They are a bit heavy and can be considerd a good thing? They are right out of the box ispa ready. The Compact p01 is being used by NATO. Very accurate. Tje CZ is a lot of bang for the buck..same quality as w eu but being made in the Czech Rep labour costs are lower. Win win.

Of course you can tweak them by the cz custom shop in AZ. or Cajun gw.

Then there is Langdons tweaking of the M9 Beretta..the Elite TT..or just a notch down the M9A3. I cant see what they can do to make the M9 anybetter..a real smooth operating system. Consider that Langdon helped Wilson Combat develope their tweaked out version of the 92.

Those are the hot tickets at the moment.

As for the 1911 the Springfield Operator TRP and Kimbers are tweaked out Production spoons that offer about 90% of a Custom. It is that extra 10% that costs you bank. In that arena Ed Brown, Wilson Combat, Nighthawk, Les Baer and Springfield Custom shop are the current gurus of the 1911. Mighty fine product.

For the AR platform ... debatably the Knights SR 15 is king of the hill..with BCM, Daniel Defense and Novkesky being right in there. The Knights SR25 is the the cream de la crema of AR10's..in 308. Try sub minute of angle at 600 yards. Thats why they were the designated marksman rifle in the sand boxes. They will set you back 5k. You want the US military sniper kit north of 10K the last time i looked.

As for the AK...the Arsenal SAM7..milled receiver is the cadilliac. The Norinco (Chinese) milled receivers though now not imported are very desirably and have gotten expensive for an AK. Other choies are the Russian SAIGA and MOLOT stamped reveivers that are heavy duty with extra rivets. The Molot Veper in 308 or 7.625 X 54R is choice at 1799. Then there is Zastafa from Serbia..at apx 800 lots of quality for the buck. They also make a sniper version similar to the Russian Draugnov in 308 m96? at 3100.

A real Russian Draugnov is going to set you back in the hood of 20 +k depending upon the day. The scopes shoot loose on those.

Yeah, 1/3 Ata whooping 3 yards! 1/3rd at 7. 1/3 at 15.

Here's the kicker. They require the serial# make and model of the firearms you carry and qualify with.

Orange County used to limit us to only 3 of our firearms on the ccw.

I screwed up and didn't sign up for renewal 90 days in advance so I will be without a permit for a few months.

So it's been about a month since you purchased our guns and we're loving them...
We've sent over 4000 rounds down range in this short period..

I have a new question though...
I've noticed after each range trip my trigger finger knuckle is swellon and hurts to bend..is this caused by shooting or just old age(44)...
Anything I should do that may help the knuckle?

As always TIA
Steve

What ranges are you going to? Twin Ponds or Boggy Head by chance?

Twin Ponds is great but I haven’t been in awhile. SCDNR - Shooting Ranges

Wow - 4,000 rounds in a month, huh? And I thought I was bad...

I have no idea what to do about your trigger finger. For me, it's always my middle finger that takes the abuse. It's the one that gets smacked by the back of the trigger guard on revolvers and traditional rifle (bolt action, lever action, single shot) designs. I've actually developed quite a callous on the first knuckle on that finger, having actually split it open on far too many occasions when shooting heavy magnum revolver and rifle hunting loads.

I'm glad you are enjoying your new hobby. Like you have mentioned, it can become quite addicting.

Thanks Jeff....
I guess the finger issue is just part of the game...
Really hope my knuckles don't start splitting, sounds pretty painful..haha..

Do you have a recommendation for a decent ar -15(think that's the closest to a m16, military issue?). I see them ranging in price from $450-$1000...

BTW...the Sig p210 is a nice shooting gun...money well spent..imo..
Still want a Colt Titanium 1911..it just looks bad a$$...

I'm afraid I don't know enough about AR-15's to make an informed recommendation. Just not my cup of tea. I'll defer to others who know far more about them than I.

I have more 45 acp in storage than 9mm. 9 magazines to run 72 rounds I have 20 or so magazines for 1911s mag dump on target, reaching for the next mag as the slide is locking back. It makes quick work.

My Glock would have been two 19 rounders one 15 and two 10s

My CZ would have been four 20's stopping quickly into the fourth
So I re-checked the Texas requirements. Once you qualify, you can carry whatever you want. You can qualify with anything, including a 0.22 Cal! You only need to qualify with a firearm the first time. Renewals require only the first half of the class, the class room part. And thank-you, I looked and I need to renew in the next 6 months!

For Texas 50 rounds total. You need to score 175 out of 250 to be licensed.

http://www.stateoftexaschl.com/chl-shooting-test/

Quote:
Number of Rounds Fired
The shooting test requires 50 rounds of ammunition

License-To-Carry Shooting Proficiency Distances

The LTC Shooting test is fired at three distances:

3 yards – 20 rounds fired
7 yards – 20 rounds fired
15 yards – 10 rounds fired

LTC Passing Score

The Texas LTC shooting test passing score is 175 points out of 250 points or a score of 70%. The state allows for three chances to pass the shooting test.

LTC Shooting Proficiency Test Scoring

5 points – shots fired in the X, 10, 9, & 8 rings
4 points – shots fired in the 7 ring
3 points – shots fired outside the 7 ring but on the silhouette
0 points – shots fired outside the silhouette or off the target paper
Shots that hit just outside the ring but break the line count as the higher score

Here are the "points"

Edit: The latest renewals only require $40 and on-line application. They will notify you if they need anything else. I think my first renewal required the 4 hour course. I think my last renewal was on-line.
