Milt, do you pull/push the edges together or just hit them with the superglue?

It is possible to take two small pieces of tape, attach one on either side of the cracked area and pull the edges together. This is particularly effective if you use some sort of skin adherent, such as tincture of benzoin or some other skin prep. Sticky part of a bandaid cut into strips works well as a make shift "butterfly"

another vote FOR superglue here, when the tip of fingers beside nail has split I've been glueing the edges together which holds it for a couple of days while it heals,

(usually caused by working in the rain which I understand is due to an amount of acid in rain drops, as opposed treated water in tub which has been processed to remove it as I understand)

Tobra; I push the edges of split together (if possible without sticking both those finger to split at same time)
but as long it forms a blob/bubble inside and above split it appears to have worked OK so far at least.
OUR A&E dept use a 'sterile' version apparently instead of stitches on some wounds
