All of Easy Co. are gone now...today our day to thank and remember all who made the ultimate sacrifice...any branch, any war.

What a generation, the World War II generation was. After the start of World War II, my 16 year old dad stole his brother’s birth certificate and joined the Navy. He was only found out when his brother tried to join up. By that time, my dad was 17 and on a ship in the Pacific Ocean. He couldn’t be in the European theater as he was born in Germany. So here is my dad, in the middle of the Pacific Ocean fighting the Japanese, caught lying about joining up. So the captain of the ship had him immediately discharged, and then allowed him to enlist on the spot. After all, there was a war to be fought.

Every year, I share this video of French caretakers who take sand from Omaha Beach in Normandy, and scrub them into the letters to give them the gold coloring.

They do this for all 9,386 US soldiers who died.

France also gave us this land as American soil.

My hardest day of the year. It is both a mentally and emotionally difficult day. I remember all my friends, buddies, and assorted comrades that perished. These were people that I laughed , joked, and Goofed around with. The stories I could tell of our antics would be priceless. Instead, I put on a show of being ok, while fighting back the sadness. Later in the evening, after my wife has gone to bed, I repeat my annual process of saluting my fallen pals with a bottle of Port and speaking each of their names. I weep without shame. I will never forget them. It is a tough day.
