Today hit a bit harder. I'm sitting in the pub, and a unfamiliar number is texting me about pictures. So I responded with question marks thinking it was one of those wrong number phishing scammers. I recognized the name, a friend's wife, she is asking for pictures of some of the events we did together, ect. So I asked if something happened to Dave, that I didn't know about At this point, she informed me that he had a massive heart attack, and died a few days later in the hospital. Dave was an interesting character, Vietnam vet, serving in the Navy, Army and Marine Corpse was was the quintessential grumpy old man, very gruff exterior, but a heart of gold. The service is scheduled for Saturday, and yes, it hit me like a ton of bricks.

He was a founding member of out "Froth Blowers, Vat 12" Brothers of the White Ash and Morocco Shrine Smoking Fezs. I'll miss his stories.

I wish like heck that I had known about this in advance, I was on the other side of downtown and would have gone over there for sure! The photos look beautiful but I wish it had been publicized better!

Remember what this so called Holiday is about, while some claim that people should not be enjoying cook out, having fun, as this holiday is about those who have given their lives for this country, it has been pointed out that those who gave their lives, made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom, and they gave their lives for us to be able to enjoy time together with our family and loved ones, not mourning, but living and enjoying the time with family and friends. While it’s very important to remember those who sacrificed everything, celebrating what they gave everything for, our freedom, our independence and don’t let their sacrifices be forgotten.

Not to disparage the original mention of "field of honor" but add on to say that IMO every National Cemetery is a genuine field of honor.

Without a doubt.

The Carolina Field Of Honor isn't even a cemetary actually. Just about every city & community around here also has their own tribute to the fallen today too.
