Cops trying to win hearts and minds of protestors

I understand the military mindset of "destroy the enemy's supplies" but if they think they are the military and the citizenry is the enemy, we have bigger problems.

Yes it's disturbing and difficult to understand but if it helps...

It's been reported that frozen water bottles were thrown at the police in Washington.

Considering the Washington claim this looks like the police decided to "neutralise" any potential projectiles.
(I'm guessing a communication was sent out to all police departments after the Washington event.)

Water bottles are a pretty typical weapon against police. Not going to kill anyone but it would definitely hurt. I suspect there is another side to the story.

Get beaned upside the head with a bottle of water thrown by some 20 something male or especially a frozen bottle, and you might understand.

Just more propaganda. It was a pretty poorly disguised set-up to support rioters that were coming in from out of town. It fooled no one except those that wanted to be fooled (reporters). The police containing the rioters there are doing them a big favor, because people outside of those few blocks of downtown are armed to the teeth (other than the carpetbagger retirees that cannot seem to stay away)...and would have no problem with shooting a looter or anyone that might endanger their family.

According to the police, the officers were destroying potential projectiles at an unpermitted medical station. The medical station was on private property without permission of the owner. According to the Police Chief, the medical crew received multiple warnings. The Police Chief stated:

"We apologize for not being able to confiscate these supplies last night, over the past three days, APD has tried to eliminate objects that can be thrown at protesters and law enforcement. Because water bottles, in particular, have been continuously used over the last three nights, officers destroyed them. Officers also searched for potentially dangerous objects, such as explosives."

How many hundred bottles of water does a "medical station" need to provide medical care to peaceful protesters? Is there a water shortage in the downtown Asheville desert (a sleepy little mountain town where it is cool and rains almost all the time)? How exactly did they intend to control the bottles (knowing that the rioters had been using them to try to injure the police)? Might have well provided a stack of bricks and pretended they were building a house

I have more emergency medical supplies in my medicine cabinet. About half of that stuff is snack food.

These folks were simply bunch of rich college kids out there for the excitement of supporting the rioters (but without risk of it showing up on their "permanent record" when they got arrested).

This is where the water bottles were going to end up:

I think they should try to find out who is supplying those pallets of bricks & rocks I saw on the news this morning & go after them. From my point of view, the people who lost businesses and property should legally go after those who organized the protests and didn't control the looters. I came to this conclusion after seeing a TV clip of local activists saying owners of local businesses that got trashed deserved it. I hope this isn't too PARFey.

A 8 oz water hurled into the air can hit more than just a cop in full gear. And I bet it still would hurt even in full gear.

Not just the cops. It's also to protect other protesters.

Honestly I think that's a matter for the FBI. If people are leaving bricks to be used as weapons that's disgusting to say the least.

Most of the cops have not been in full riot gear...but strong policing has really helped in every place it has been tried...including this example.

Click through these photos and see how much it resembles Minneapolis or NYC. More like a frat party.

nothing helpful to add to discussion, except to note that one officer is using a Benchmade Knife.

In the first set of pictures? AFO, 9000 series automatic. The AFO and the Auto-Stryker have been standard issue police/military since day one.

Get hit in the head even with a helmet on with a frozen 12 oz water bottle. It'll give you a life long c spine disability, or ricochet.... Helmets, vests, gear only go so far.
