I looked in the mirror and I have no excuse for what I saw...

I remember reading an interview with her probably 20+ years ago. In there she described how she had always been told that she was so beautiful, ever since she was a small child. To paraphrase, and only from memory, she described this state of things as intimidating, overwhelming and limiting. At the time I thought "yeah, sucks to be you, given how flat-out gorgeous you are". Perhaps she has acted out a desire to be seen as different than just her appearance?

Clearly she didn't want to be in the limelight anymore, so F*%K the guy that snapped/published these photos - making money off of another's suffering.

Her Grandmother (Peter and Jane's Mom) was institutionalized for mental health issues and eventually committed suicide. Perhaps there's something hereditary going on.

Steve, if you are trying to post photos that are PNG files, it will not work. Simply rename them to JPG files, and upload them. It works! Just rename them with a different extension.

Steve Carlton 02-03-2022 07:34 AM

Yes. Open the image with paint, resize it if needed, then save it as a jpeg and post.

GH85Carrera 02-03-2022 07:41 AM

Just change the extension from png to jpg. That is all that is needed 99% of the time. No need to open the file in any program or app. Just rename it. I don't know why it works, but it does.

Nope, not png, also not uploading to PP, hotlinking to the original source (which usually works OK). I guess Shorpy has some sort of defence against hotlinking.

Steve Carlton 02-03-2022 08:16 AM

I prefer uploading the images so they don’t disappear later.

Went down into the archives after seeing Glen's pics above.

Below is Euclid Ave around the turn of the 19th-20th century. It's a boulevard 200 feet wide and runs about 15 miles through my hometown (plus a few others), all without a single bend.

Anyways, before the area had electricity, mules pulled a trolley all the way north up to the foothills at the base of the Angeles National Forest. Once at the top, the mules were unhooked from their bindings (? must be a better word - I'm not a horse person), loaded on to the little trailer and coasted back down the hill to where the photo was taken.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1643912655.jpg

Incidentally, the mule car only ran for a few years as electricity was quick to arrive. And the story goes that the mules were sold to a local farmer, who claimed that forever more they'd only plow uphill...

And after seeing many photos (here and elsewhere) like the second one from Glen, I set about figuring out where that was and how to get there.

I took these in 2011 in Antelope Canyon, a wind-carved sandstone (now tourist attraction) on an Indian reservation in AZ. We combined it with a flight over the Grand Canyon and a float back down, and that made the time we spent in Antelope Canyon worth it!

Hmm, yah think there was a bit of staging going on for this photo. What is the girl on the left doing with the air hose? Pumping up the bumper? And then the one on the rear bumper, washing the window in its stored away position?
