No, he was driving a prototype of the next gen GT code named the J car. The side scoops, if they were there at all, were different. I worked at the fiberglass factory where the first bodies were built. I may have been on the one that crashed, but I was a finisher not a laminator. I was 18. The rear body came off at Riverside at the end of the straight.

We had a real GT40 on the factory floor. I don't know why, the cars were different at least body wise. It wasn't there long.

Stenciled on one of the aft mounts on the 747. Yes, this is really there.

One of my more unusual jobs in AOG was to design tooling to first disassemble and then reassemble one of these aircraft (N905NA) for transport and display at Space Center Houston. Wings were removed so that it could be trailered down a public roadway. Here is where it sits today, with a mockup of the space shuttle Independence resting on top:

I feel a bit robbed that we only have a "mock-up" of the shuttle. Although, since it's sitting outside a mock-up is adequate. You'd think the location of mission control might get the real thing. But we don't have a museum to put it in or anything like that so....

Maybe, but if her top is a striped blouse or whatever that top is called, it might be real. The top just wraps around her waist. It would be easy to add the text with Photoshop and not change anything but the butt area.

She's wearing a mostly white wrap around shirt that's causing an optical illusion. Her waist in the photo is wider than it initially appears.

California, 1935...

American River camp, Sacramento. Home of Tennessee family, now migratory workers. Seven in family, came to California July 1935, following relatives who had come in 1933. Father was a coal miner in Tennessee. Reason for coming to California. "Our neighbors were coming. We only got one or two days work a week (relief.) Thought we could make it better here." Since arrival family has worked in walnuts, tomatoes, peaches, and the mother has worked in a fruit cannery...

If you always wondered what the inside of the old service stations and garages looked like. Back then most of the Route 66 traffic depended on the service station to repair their car and get them back on the road. There were very few dealer garages along the way and no specialized shops like we have today. This photo from August 1937 is not on Route 66 but probably is an excellent representative of the way it was in the average service station. This photo has excellent resolution!
