The cans of rotten Baltic herring, which had already expanded due to the powerful fermentation gases inside, were heated by the fire and began to explode over a period of six hours.............

Reports say the fire crews initially believed the explosions were caused by propane bottles.

Surstromming is a traditional dish from northern Sweden. The Baltic herring is fermented in barrels for months before being put in tin cans, where the fermentation process continues.

Several major airlines have banned the fish, external, arguing they are pressurised goods and must be classified as potentially explosive.

The delicacy is so foul-smelling that it is often eaten outside.

Steve Carlton 07-07-2024 08:24 AM

Ritz crackers required for surstromming consumption, I would expect.

Interesting that the comment says it's for a '65, but the date on the top corner of the invoice is dated 1972. I guess it was a request for a replacement invoice. 1965 did have a 425hp 396 as an option. The optional big block in 1972 was a 270hp 454 :(

It is a 1965- the 6th digit of the VIN (after 19437) means 1965. The 7th digit "S" means built in St. Louis. That 1972 date looks like it was typed in with a different font.

Cockcroft-Walton Acceleratorą at the University of California's Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory, New Mexico (1943). John H. Manley˛, a physicist recruited into the Manhattan Project from the University of Illinois' Metallurgical Laboratory brought his accelerator to Project Ył P-Division (physics) to aid in the study of neutron scattering⁴. Later in the war, the reorganized R-Division (research) scientists employed the machine for studying neutron behavior in subcritical⁵ uranium masses.
A Cockcroft–Walton generator, or multiplier, is an electric circuit that generates a high DC voltage from a low-voltage AC input. Designed by physicists John Douglas Cockcroft and Ernest Thomas Sinton Walton to power their particle accelerator, performing the first artificial nuclear disintegration in history. They used this voltage multiplier cascade for most of their research, which in 1951 won them the Nobel Prize in Physics for "Transmutation of atomic nuclei by artificially accelerated atomic particles". The Greinacher multiplier (or doubler cascade) circuit was originally developed in 1919, by Swiss physicist Heinrich Greinacher. Cockcroft–Walton circuits are still used in modern particle accelerators. They also are used in everyday electronic devices that require high voltages, such as X-ray machines and photocopiers.

The GM LT5 engine was originally designed and built for the 1990 Chevy Corvette ZR-1. It was designed however jointly with Lotus and actually built by Mercury Marine in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Reason being, GM had little experience building all aluminum engines at the time. The LT5 produced 380 horsepower through a 5.7L, 32-valve, small block V8. Lightweight pistons and connecting rods, a forged crankshaft and 11:1 compression ratio took the ZR-1 to 60mph in 4.5 seconds with a top speed of 175mph
