I had to do that in Jr. High. It was a cinch for me, as I was a skinny very active kid. I went right to the top and right back down with ease. The coach was amazed. He was also weighing all of the boys. He would guess the weight, and then have us stand on the scale. I was way heavier than he figured as I had very low body fat and was all muscle.

Those days are long gone.

Yeah, we had to do that in Jr. High also. I set the school record for the rope climb. I don't remember if there was a mat under the rope or not. I also set a school record for something termed the "agility run." it consisted of starting with three forward rolls, a skin the cat, traversing the parallel bars, vaulting the horse going under it & over again, then climbing the 20 ft. rope. I completed the course in 17.7 seconds. Yes, those days are long gone.

Michigan, 1940.
This picture was taken in Berrien County, Michigan in July of 1940 and shows a one bedroom home that was rented by a family of seven for $1.75 per week. This particular family made their living working as farm hands wherever they could find work. Many of the larger farms had living quarters like this that could be rented to migrant workers.
