If the SR-71 used composites in its airframe that are still classified, have all SR- 71s currently in museums had those composites removed from their airframes?
The SR-71 Blackbird, renowned for its advanced design and materials, indeed utilized some composites and technologies that remain classified to this day. When it comes to the SR-71s displayed in museums, the handling of these classified materials is a matter of national security and careful consideration.
When an aircraft like the SR-71 is retired and prepared for public display, any sensitive or classified components are either removed or replaced with non-classified substitutes. This ensures that no critical technology is inadvertently exposed. The exact details of what is removed or altered are not publicly disclosed, but it is standard practice to safeguard any advanced materials or technologies that could still be of strategic importance.
For instance, the composites used in the SR-71's airframe, which contributed to its stealth and high-speed capabilities, would likely be among the components scrutinized and potentially removed before the aircraft is placed in a museum. This process ensures that while the public can appreciate the remarkable engineering and historical significance of the SR-71, the integrity of sensitive technologies is maintained.

The Tornado OHV Conversion was an overhead valve (OHV) upgrade for Ford flathead V8 engines, developed in the late 1940s by Lee Chapel of Lee’s Speed Shop in Oakland, California. This conversion replaced the original flathead cylinder heads with hemispherical combustion chamber heads, significantly improving airflow and increasing horsepower.
The Tornado OHV was capable of pushing a stock Mercury flathead engine to around 175 horsepower, while race-tuned versions running on nitromethane could exceed 300 horsepower. In 1950, a Tornado-equipped streamliner set a record at Bonneville, reaching 175 mph.
The Tornado OHV Conversion is rare today, cherished by collectors and hot rod enthusiasts for its role in early land speed racing and engine performance innovation.

The Volkswagen Type 166, better known as the Schwimmwagen, shown with its canvas up and engine cover opened. The Schwimmwagen is a really cool amphibious car that was very popular among anyone who got their hands on one during the war. They had a smooth bottom, a boat-shaped body and a propeller at the rear. They were powered by a rear-mounted air-cooled boxer engine.

August 1973: the new models have arrived! The desire to further increase safety, comfort and to satisfy anti-pollution laws and thus to permanently maintain a significant lead over the most recent level of technology is evident in the 1974 Porsche. The character of the 911 remains unchanged. And despite this, the Porsche 911s are completely new models.

Computer scientist Grace Hopperą entering the machine code for her computer program that calculates tables of Bessel functions˛ on a manual tape punch that creates 24-hole paper tapes for the Harvard Mark Ił electromechnical computer, at the engineering laboratory of IBM in Endicott, New York, August 4, 1944.
The computer worked around the clock on military projects, calculating massive mathematical tables. Principally it helped the Navy by computing tables for the design of equipment such as torpedos and underwater detection systems. Other branches of the military sought its help in calculating the design of surveillance camera lenses, radar, and implosion devices for the atomic bomb in the Manhattan Project. The mathematical tables that Mark I churned out were the first of their kind fulfilling Charles Babbage's dream⁴ of printing directly from a machine’s output, eliminating all human error. One of the computer's longest running projects required it to solve Bessel's differential equation by generating numerous printed tables of Bessel functions of different orders and as a result, the computer was given the nickname “Bessie.”
It was Hopper's extensive experience in the trenches coding in low-level machine language that inspired her to design a series of easier higher level languages culminating in FLOW-MATIC⁵ a language that helped shape the development of COBOL⁶, an easy to use widespread english-like business oriented computer programming language.

Exasperating that she could not recognize the humor, but kinda cute, nonetheless.

Due to the extremely delicate structure of the Lunar Roving Vehicle, Apollo crews were warned to drive the LRV with great caution. Strict speed limits were placed on the 1 horsepower vehicle at an absolute maximum of 8mph to ensure the maintenance of proper safety during lunar surface excursions. Almost 250 thousand miles from the nearest tow truck or medical facility, astronauts had to exercise extreme caution.
Pictured: Apollo Astronaut John Young spraying some lunar dust while off-roading and catching some air shortly before reaching the lunar record-breaking speed of 10.5 miles per hour

During the Apollo 17 mission, after unloading the Lunar Roving Vehicle (LRV) from the Lunar Module, Commander Gene Cernan accidentally knocked off the right-rear fender extension. This seemingly small incident had a significant impact, as without the fender, the wheel kicked up fine lunar dust that covered the rover and its astronauts, creating visibility and equipment issues.
Cernan initially tried to fix the fender using tape, but it fell off again. Ground control technicians on Earth suggested an innovative solution: taping together plastic-coated lunar map sheets to form a makeshift replacement fender extension. Cernan and Lunar Module Pilot Harrison Schmitt followed this advice, creating a functional replacement that helped control the dust for the remainder of the mission.
This creative fix demonstrated the crew's resourcefulness and highlighted the importance of even the smallest pieces of equipment during lunar exploration.
