Topographical engineers, here's your time to shine by IDing the equipment you can see here, photographed at Camp Winfield Scott, Yorktown, spring 1862. You've got tripod scope thingy, spool doo-dad, compass-looking contraption, single post scale or scope device... and two guns! A really tough job back then.

Here is a photo of a billboard that stood along Route 66 somewhere close to Oklahoma City, OK in 1941 according to the Oklahoma Historical Society. We have no information on "Yellow Cab Tetraethyl Leaded Gasoline" but the price must have been good for them to pay for such a large billboard. In 1933 there were 7 Yellow Cab stations in Okla City, one was on Route 66 at 2020 North Broadway. The stations were scattered all over Oklahoma until 1953. Mr. Harrell died in 1942.

Nice job, Greg!

I had to have a redwood removed that was threatening my house years ago. A friend wanted the wood, he came by with a milling machine and cut it up and used it in the roof of his house in Mendocino County. Didn't dry it out and it all curled up on him. And I had a ton of sawdust in my yard. That was a lose-lose.

Silver Plume, Colorado was built among some of the Clear Creek silver district's largest mines. By 1893, the town had over 2,000 residents and a booming commercial district.

This popped up on my news feed (I think I need to add a filter) but I'm thinking she doesn't look quite right. Something about her eyes just looks scary.

The B-36 Peacemaker had catwalks built into the wings so that crew could work on the engines in flight!
Bonus fact: the engines were mounted as pushers to reduce drag so that it could fly from Pittsburgh to Moscow without refueling, 10,000 miles!
The B-36 is the largest mass-produced piston-engined aircraft ever built. It had the longest wingspan of any combat aircraft ever built, at 230 ft (70 m).
The B-36 was the primary bomber, capable of nuclear delivery, of Strategic Air Command (SAC) until it was replaced by the jet-powered Boeing B-52 Stratofortress.
Many people see the B-52 and think it is the biggest bomber in the Air Force. In reality, the B-36 was larger. The Peacemaker had a wingspan of 230 ft and a length of 162 ft. Compared to the B-52's 185 ft wingspan and 159 ft length, the B-36 dwarfed its replacement.

She looks like she’s been on the crazy train for a while. She was cute when young, but 10-15 years later, she looks like she’s had a rough time.
