Seems like a question of repetition to me.
Receiving is just jotting down... and then converting it offline

I don't think anybody would hear Morse and do a live translation to letters in their head
store it
and then form words as thye come in.
Brain doesn't work like that, we aren't computers
Since live transmission might only be a one time deal, best practice to me seems to jot it down which is not that hard, just a question of paying attention and being accurate, neat and precise.


Transmitting is the hard part since that's live..
And that is a question of some talent + lots of practice.
if done enough, one becomes faster at keying to the point it becomes fluent.

It gets even more interesting (and I had no idea):

After graduating from high school, Johnson enlisted in the United States Army Air Forces as an aviation cadet. On completing his training, he was commissioned as a second lieutenant. He flew 44 combat missions in the Pacific Theater during World War II as a bombardier in B-25 twin-engined medium bombers.

On March 4, 1945, while flying as a navigator in a B-25 with the 100th Bombardment Squadron, 42nd Bombardment Group, 13th Air Force, Johnson's B-25 and two others were shot down during a low-level bombing and strafing run against Japanese military targets in the Philippine Islands. The B-25s encountered heavy anti-aircraft fire, and all three had to ditch in the sea off Zamboanga. Johnson broke both his ankles in the landing, and his bomber's co-pilot was killed. Johnson received a Purple Heart for his injuries. He was also awarded the Air Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with three campaign stars, the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one campaign star, and the World War II Victory Medal.

Johnson was honorably discharged as a first lieutenant on November 22, 1945, then joined the United States Air Force Reserve

If translation and transmission is done "live", and the folks that do the translation and transmission are almost certainly also the folks that do the reception, then I think it makes sense that they would probably just as easily be able to receive and translate live. There are folks that are multilingual (as you are no doubt aware), and I suspect they perform translation and transmission and reception "live" between multiple languages. I suspect that once you are fluent in morse, you would do the same. It may actually be easier since communications likely take longer than speaking (each letter being a series of dot(s) and dash(es).

Dan Rowan, of Rowan and Martin, was orphaned at age 11 and grew up in an orphanage. Joining the Air Corp, he flew P40s in the Pacific. He had 2 kills and won a DFC before being badly wounded.
Of course he never played a fighter pilot like Tom Cruise.
