Wisdom, Montana from 1942

Here is a long expoure photo from July 1940 of Route 66 looking southwest through downtown Chandler, Oklahoma. This is a beautiful-looking town considering the U.S. is still in the Great Depression at this point. The resolution of the photo is very good. You can copy and download this and enlarge it to see good detail. West 9th is to the right. We rarely see motorcycles in old photos. There is one at this corner that appears to be a policeman's with the policeman standing and talking to some people.
Chandler is known for a couple of things. It is the pecan capital of the world. It is the town whose sheriff was shot in the last Old West gunfight in Oklahoma. Marshall William Matthew "Bill" Tilghman was shot dead in nearby Cromwell, OK by a corrupt prohibition agent in 1924, just two years before Route 66 was established. He was living in Chandler at the time and is buried in Chandler, where a city park is named after him. In 1960, he was inducted into the Hall of Great Westerners at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City.
The photo is courtesy of the Oklahoma Historical Society.

It's not exactly on the route to West Point but if you don't mind the detour, you can get there along Rt 6 to Port Jervis. It's my backyard so if'n you're up for some jersey hospitality let me know.

Same launch, different perspective. 300 miles North of the launch site at sea level in South Carolina. The little "lip" in the middle of the condensation trail are the two boosters peeling away under power, on their way back to Cape Canaveral.

West Texas storm chaser Laura Rowe captured the picture of a lifetime, fantastic shot of a mature supercell thunderstorm, illuminated at varying heights from the setting sun.

I tried some of that stuff back when it was new, and one can was all I ever wanted.

A real photo postcards of Oatman, Arizona, and her early burros. Oatman is a favorite along Old Route 66. This once thriving gold mining town is now a very popular tourist destination. Oatman's "wild" burros are the descendants of burros brought here by the miners in the late 1800s; when the miners no longer needed them, they were turned loose. Each morning they come into town looking for food. They wander the streets and greet the tourists. Burro pellets are for sale at many of the shops -- the burros will eat all day if you feed them. Shortly before sunset, they wander back to the hills for the night.

When I was an Instructor at the Empire State Military Academy at Camp Smith, I used to drive up to West Point a couple times a week. I should have frequent flyer miles for all the times I have crossed the Bear Mountain Bridge !

I'll bet that the engineer in charge thought that boring through the tree was better than cutting it down.

IDK if I ever posted this one. If you found me in the rugby pic you'll see me here right away. Just look at that motley crew.

1938 Alfa Romeo 8C 2900B Touring Spider. The factory never had a paint finish remotely that nice.

A ‘One-in-a-Million’ Yellow Cardinal Has Been Seen in Florida
The cardinal is one of North America’s most identifiable birds, with its distinctive crest and vivid red plumage on males.
However, one exceptionally unusual cardinal observed lately in Gainesville, Florida has a radically different appearance: he’s brilliant yellow, a “one-in-a-million” occurrence.

A collection that is bigger than yours!

Real pride in craftsmanship and a job well done.

Mount Taranaki National Park has an almost perfectly circular boundary: the change in vegetation is so sharply delineated that the photos from above show an incredibly neat base
