Southern Ohio family in front of new washing machine, 1911. The rich folks that had a washing machine! I think they predated the rules of the federal safety police.

"This vision from the past was snapped in 1940 and shows the control room of the waterworks in Washington D.C. A classically satisfying bank of controls for keeping an eye on all the important systems."

The Imprint of a Mitsubishi kamikaze Ki-51 'Sonia' two-seat light bomber, along the side of H.M.S Sussex. You can see the fixed undercarriage imprinted on 'Sussex's hull as well.

I would love to put that in above my cubicle if I was working in a cubicle farm. Fortunately for me, I work at home and just have a textured drywall ceiling.

Things are known to get strange in the world of automotive prototypes and test vehicles. This is the Michelin/Citroen PLR (Poids Lourd Rapide, roughly translated as "fast truck"). Michelin built this odd machine to test commercial vehicle tires in 1972. It has a total of 11 wheels on the ground - 6 drive wheels, 4 wheels for steering, and 1 for testing inside the station wagon-like body. You might expect power to come from a Citroen engine, or maybe some European diesel, but you would be VERY wrong. I can just imagine Steve Martin as Inspector Clouseau saying, "In the back of my vehicle, I have TWO small block Chevys, producing about 350 horsepower each." A total of FIVE radiators are used to cool the engines, one of which powers the 3 drive axles and the other powers the testing wheel in the center of the vehicle.

It's an easy trap to fall into. The discover of the Antikythera Device showed historians were way off on just how technical, able and knowledgeable the ancients were!
