I was there, just turned 19. For some reason I don’t remember much. I do remember ZZ Top had a longhorn on stage, or at least I think they did. Things are a little fuzzy from back then.

I think I remember seeing in the ZZT documentary that one of their concerts included a longhorn on stage.

Back in the day when their look was "different" than what they settled on.

Right, interesting, such genius is a normal "package" that then deteriorated slowly. I suppose maybe it's some comfort that it was a VERY slow progression. A man living to 76yo is not exactly a spring chicken. Still, the mind being trapped in that body. Maybe it gave the mind more time to do its thing.

^ Is that letter for real? It's well known that William and Vivian hated each other, but they kept it professional on set. William was well known for being a difficult alcoholic- that letter looks like proof of that. Desi asking for another actor? Seems odd. Anyway, I thought William was awesome in I Love Lucy. Vivian didn't do much for me. She was younger than Lucy, but (I believe) asked to gain weight and play an older woman. She was 22 years younger than William. She turned down an opportunity for a spin off with him because she didn't want to work with him.

Effective range of different WW2 fighters. Just the Mustang could go over 600 miles out.

It bears repeating: Hank Williams and his wife Audrey, Montgomery, AL, 1948. All those songs are right here.

Furka Pass ,Switzerland: The famous Hotel Belvedere.
Built in 1882, the Hotel was a popular spot for exploring the Rhone Glacier. Even Sean Connery was a guest during the filming of Goldfinger. However, due to a landslide between Göschenen and Andermatt in 2015, the once flourishing hotel closed in 2016 and hasn't opened since.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Robert Hays with "Otto" at an Airplane! reunion held on September 19, 2013.

Residence of John Tom Blanton at Tribbey Kentucky, Perry County.
Description says Mr. Blanton works at Old King Mining Company. He and his wife live here with 4 children, two shown in photo.
They have a radio, but no refrigerator and no automobile. They live about 2 miles from the nearest general store where they sometimes walk to, to get supplies.
He makes $51.70 a week as a miner, and with a small vegetable garden every year and occasional livestock, they do better than some of their time.
This home design is what we always called a “shotgun” house.
The rooms are in a straight line through the house.
The outhouses/toilets were usually built a good distance from the house as shown here. But if you had a small house lot, they were a lot closer.
Note: In the 1960’s my dad was only making about $65 per week, with a bigger family, so Mr. Blanton’s $51.70 was decent pay in the 40’s.

NASA hopes to get a glimpse at Earth's core by sending a spacecraft to 16 Psyche, an metal-rich asteroid 280 million miles away. It would be worth 10 Quaadrillion dollars in minerals and metals if we had a way to harvest it.

The Arcane Texas Fact of the Day:
The total weight of catfish consumed in Texas annually is approximately the weight of 7.5 Eiffel Towers. Texans consume 109 million pounds of catfish per year, or 54,500 tons. The Eiffel Tower weighs 7300 tons. Drop this little factoid on your dining companions later this evening and watch them genuflect in astonished admiration of your crazy Texanness.

Not real. Generated images from Deluxe Fuxley. The clipped note asking to "See if Bill Demarest is available" is reference to William Demarest replacing William Frawley on "My Three Sons".

Great website!

I knew both of them were on My Three Sons- didn't realize Demarest replaced Frawley. What's with the corrections before Desi in the letter? Okay- I just noticed it's Rick crossed out. Another tip that it's a fake.
