About 66 million years ago, a massive asteroid impact triggered the extinction of 75% of Earth's species, including the dinosaurs. The Bisti/De-Na-Zin Wilderness in San Juan County, New Mexico, spans 45,000 acres and preserves one of the most complete fossil records from this pivotal moment in Earth's history—the Cretaceous-Paleogene boundary. This area, with its striking rock formations and rich fossil beds, offers a unique glimpse into the transition from the Mesozoic Era to the Cenozoic Era, making it a geological treasure for understanding Earth's ancient past.


Stuğlagil is a ravine in Jökuldalur in the municipality of Múlaşing, in the Eastern Region of Iceland. It is known for its columnar basalt rock formations and the blue-green water that runs through it. It became an unexpected tourist sensation after being shown in a WOW air brochure in 2017. The rock formation is 30 meters (98 ft) tall.
