That map is of the continent 50-100 million years ago. Prior to the formation of the Rocky Mountains. You can find ocean fish fossils at 8,000 ft in the Colo Rockies.

Late Cretaceous

You can thank plate tectonics for both drier land, and earthquakes

Good question - a number of civilizations have gone extinct from water loss.

A state hydrologist would know.

If you have ever doubted whether solar power can be a transformative technology, read on.

This is a story about how it has proved its worth in the toughest environment possible.

The market I'm talking about is perhaps the purest example of capitalism on the planet.

There are no subsidies here. Nobody is thinking about climate change - or any other ethical consideration, for that matter.

This is about small-scale entrepreneurs trying to make a profit.
Not sure if illegal drug planting is a pure example of capitalism. That crop has to pay MUCH better than tomatoes. And it is easier to harvest / process / preserve. Would be better if it was a food crop or something else that isn't an illegal product. At any rate, not sure if this is big news for solar. If you go anywhere on a cattle ranch in the west in the US, you will see that all the irrigation windmills are out of service, replaced with solar driven electric pumps.

Damning indictment? Sounds like you have an axe to grind.

Solar and wind will eventually dominate energy production because it is clean and relatively cheap to produce. The article you shared shows the ingenuity of one part of the world. In Africa solar is being used for wells for villages and to power lights in homes and even cell phones where there is no electrical grid as we know it. It has revolutionized life in many remote areas, so don’t be so quick to condemn an entire industry based on one article which confirms your bias.

He's tongue in cheek trolling.

Sarcasm.

BTW, News Flash: PV Solar works well in remote sunny locations.

Another Damning indictment is that they are used on satellites and mars rovers. - Film at 11.

The Department of Energy on Thursday announced a settlement to recover $200 million in taxpayer funds from Tonopah Solar Energy, a first-of-its-kind Nevada solar project that never showed a profit and frequently was offline.

Else their investment in increase pumping will sooner or later be futile

Glaciers are all melting, at increased rates and they are land locked..
So they are going to pump their land dry, and create a new and improved desert.

Then what? Nobody is looking forward to more Afghans migrating to the western world, with a middle aged mind set.

Not really. That was more of a tongue-in-cheek bait for some of the anti-alternative-energy guys on here.
