Qualifying was exciting. Happy for Marco even though Dixon is my man.

I'll give Uber-boy props for getting Pole. He did have an edge that no one other than Team Andretti seemed to have the right setup. Lets see if he can put together 500 more to take a win.

My usual caution...never bet against Penske. Wasn't much to learn from today's practice because of the wind...race day will probably be different conditions.

It would be cool for Marco to drink the milk. But the Andretti luck will kick around lap 150 I guessing.

The most famous words in motor racing "Andretti is slowing on the back stretch."
The best quote from Mario at Indy that I ever heard was "The Lola Ford K-Mart was running great and all of a sudden it made a very expensive noise." |

I'm just a sentimental old man, but it brought me great joy to see how happy Mario was that Marco accomplished that.
People forget how good Marco was at Indy early in his career. He's always had good equipment, true, but 2nd in 06 as a rook and 3 times third, once forth. (2008,2010,13,14). The paddock loves him. As a racer he's been a bit of an enigma, but never as a person.

Being the Honda fan that I am I was surprised to see that too.
Let's hope they can be consistent in race trim too. What's with them not using 6th gear? Is that a save gas gear ratio?

My office manager's grandfather was the motor guy for Parnelli Jones racing back in the day. Built the motor Al Sr won it with the first time. I have a few supertanium nuts and bolts off that car.

Marco was so nonplussed his dad was actually more excited in the immediate interviews.
This race is often more than not a race between Ganassi and Penske. I'll wager one of Ganassi's 3 cars this year. Rosenqvist is not a dark horse but not a stable front runner yet. He could surprise. I hope Alanso does well this year but I have little faith in the team. |

I sort of thought Michael butted in and cut him off mid interview. Hope he does well in race.

I applaud the safety crews for rolling on the cars even before the cars have come to a stop.
BUT, why don't they take the rear doors off the crew cabs and replace them with retractable belts so they get out quicker? Then mount the fire extinguishers on the outside of the truck, maybe a rack on the front bumper? Watching these guys opening the door, running to the back of the truck to get the extinguisher then running to the front is wasting time when a car is on fire and the driver is struggling to get out. Just a suggestion....

It also seems it takes a bit of time to extricate drivers with the new aeroscreen. It hasn't been an issue today, but I will hate to see it when it does become an issue some day.

^ Agree. Can't image how difficult it would be if the driver was unconscious.

That was a big hit by Pigot. Glad he's OK.
Congrats to Sato on #2. Also, good on IndyCar to not red flag the race and contrive a WWF finish.
