The Empire Strikes Back

AMC in Boston is playing it. Oddly enough it's not playing Star Wars or Return of the Jedi. Thought it'd be fun to see it on the big screen again. Great seeing young Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford as well as James Earl Jones' voice. Funny how low budget the stop action tauntauns were and star destroyers looked like the toys they were. Still, it was authentic and better than most modern Star Wars, a treat to see it in a theater.

Easily the best of all of them.

The closing scene still gives me goosebumps..

The local theatre has become a revival house. In the past four months we’ve seen the goonies, Willy wonka, wizard of oz, raiders of the lost ark and empire strikes back.

Seen more movies since lockdown started than in the last two years.

Saw Empire Strikes Back on its opening day and started my job in that theater the following day. Had the super duper sound system they installed when Earthquake came out. I bet I saw that movie a hundred times. That one and Raiders of the Lost Ark were both so fantastic. When it first came out, you could not see the matting in the outer space shots as much as you can now, is that from damage to the print or something?

I believe it's the 40-year anniversary of ESB, specifically. It's playing in theaters (that are open) around the country.

Prefer Return of the Jedi. Luke go to Jabba's palace as a Jedi was pretty bad a$$.

You can still find the original theatrical version on VHS, but you will pay handsomely for a copy. I had the original trilogy on VHS at one point, and all sorts of other Star Wars stuff as a kid. Long gone now. Sigh...

Sad to see Carrie Fisher all coked up knowing how she died later. 60 is way to young...

They added some CGI "enhancements" and changed some of the music, IIRC. Heresy!

ok, they certainly didn't enhance the tauntauns. the whole think looked old school, loved that and still think the best part was seeing young Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford.

This movie has never turned a profit, according to 20th Century Fox.

I still have my vintage set of VHS tapes but, haven't watched those in about 5 years. I inherited my MIL's Pioneer Laser Disc and all of her Sci-Fi discs last spring including the original releases. I can live with the slight pause as the disc reader flips sides so that I can see Han shoot first.
