Unload a clip on someone trying to rob you and it cost more for the ammo than to give them what is in your wallet.

CTD is more like Neiman Marcus without the cache or prestige. Their prices are so ridiculous for things that can be found for so much less in so many other places. I just don't get how anyone puts up with their prices. What value do they offer over others who charge so much less?

Called a LGS to see if they had any 9mm ammo. They had 9mm Blazer Brass and Federal in stock. I asked how much. The answer was $33 per box of 50!!! Bend over folks and remember to take some lube with you while shopping for ammo.

That sounds like the ''because we can'' price.

Follow the money .... sounds like the .22lr bendover has moved on to 9mm. Ironic? Nope....it's just because they can and eventually a sucker will bite...

That's what many are doing right now. I get it, it's supply and demand. But believe me, I'll remember the places that jacked up prices when I'm making my next gun purchase or buying reloading supplies.

There are a lot of new gun owners who have no idea what ammo should cost or, they are desperate to learn and will pay whatever it takes to get food for their new gun. Once there isn't a shortage, there will be a bunch of angry people who avoid the LGS for ripping them off. The LGS makes a short term profit. The online sellers (and reloading equipment companies) will be the long term winners.

If a store quotes me $30 for a box of 50 I just smile and walk away.

There's nothing wrong with a store charging a premium for an item they don't know if or when they'll be able to restock, and especially the gun stores that have onsite shooting ranges. Those guys can't keep the range fees coming if they let the ammo get bought up in bulk by people who don't plan to shoot it there. Some of the local gun stores with onsite ranges limit ammo sales to members or people paying range fees only. And they also limit ammo to two boxes and then only to people who are also buying a gun. It sucks, but they're under no obligation to sell everything at a set profit margin and then, when they run out and can't restock, too bad.

I placed an order for some Lapua .223 shell cases but told it was out of stock and who knows when etc because of the American situation.

Stink, it's made in Sweden or Germany, or somewhere nearby and going to NZ.

I understand all those things. Limit numbers and even give a better price to members but, $30 for a box of 50 9mm - that is not selling ammo, it is holding it hostage.

^^^
You might as well give up on 9mm unless you're willing to wait in a line with no guarantee you'll get any, or pay a premium. Rural King, Dunhams, Stock and Field and several other stores around the area sell out pretty quickly because they're only getting limited amounts. Several of the stores haven't gotten any 9mm in for over a month.

I think we're just gonna have to wait for the crazy to settle down a bit.

Make friends with a manager at the store or the guy you see each time at the LGS. Chat them up a few times during your visits looking for ammo. Then, ask if they can put aside a few boxes when the next shipment comes in. Maybe it works, maybe not, but its worth a try.
