From what I have read, he didn't live the life he put into song and sucked as a father to Julian. As with most celebrities there was the public side and the real person.

MDC had a list of celebrities he wanted to kill. If I recall correctly, Howard Cosell was on the list. He chose Lennon because he was the most famous and most accessible. David Bowie was number two. Bowie was acting on Broadway at the time. MDC's plan was to get seats to the show and simply stand up and Shoot Bowie in the middle of his performance, a la John Wilkes booth.

Here is Bowie's recollection of that time:

On the day of the murder, singer David Bowie was appearing on Broadway in the play The Elephant Man. "I was second on his list," Bowie later said. "Chapman had a front-row ticket to The Elephant Man the next night. John and Yoko were supposed to sit front-row for that show too. So the night after John was killed there were three empty seats in the front row. I can't tell you how difficult that was to go on. I almost didn't make it through the performance."

I don't know if this is 'urban myth/legend' - but didn't Lennon autograph an LP for the 'dipschitt'? - before the shooting, of course.

Yes. There are pictures of Lennon signing the album.

Plenty of mindless melodies out there.
Maybe some Herman’s Hermits would suit you.

I was a young teenager at the time but the Beatles were already a big influence on my music tastes so it hit me hard at the time.

I thought the movie Yesterday had a comforting take on John. I even rewound and watched it a second time.

I had the honor and privilege of seeing Bruce Springsteen on 12/9 1980. I wasn't really a Lennon or Beatles aficionado, but it was one of the most moving experiences of my life. The entire band came out onto the Spectrum stage dressed in black suits/tuxes, and Bruce said something along the lines of "its hard to come out here tonight, but Twist and Shout was the first song I ever learned... and proceeded to tear into the setlist backwards, starting with Born to Run, and ending with Twist and Shout. It was cathartic and mind blowing and well...

^^^^^That's three post in three that disgust me.

1)Nothing wrong with owning a 944.

2)Springsteen always seemed to capitalize, yet didn't believe in his own lyrics. I can appreciate he did a tribute for a fellow commie musician.

3)They ought to hang the bastard that bought it.

Without him there never would have been this. Yeah, he was imperfect.
