It’s not a sports car, but definitely a sporty car. Great highway car - engine is laggy like an 80s turbo but has a terrific midrange, cruises at 70 or 80 or 90 or 100 - whatever you like. Chairlike seats are all-day comfortable, I’ve never had the heat past halfway, even in 15F weather. Came to me with Intrax springs and Monroe shocks, which was a terrible combination (but nice stance, as seen in the photo.) Currently on later SPG springs (85 SPGs used standard Turbo/S springs) and adjustable red Konis, which is much, much better but I need to take the shocks out again and turn them down a notch or so. I bought it in Vancouver (lifetime BC car) and road-tripped it home to Chicago. Perfect body so while it’s been driven in winter occasionally it’s never seen salt and only got caught out in snow once. I’ve had my fun with it for a few years and improved it some, and it’s time to pass it along in the spring.

I'd take a Saab 900 any day. Or the Volvo Bertone, if only just for the looks.

BUT...
We had a Volvo XC90 T6 and in our family that is cited as the worst car we've ever owned. The auto gearbox made by GM was a piece of junk that as part of a Class Action lawsuit. Since I was not the original owner I only got $800 from the settlement. Meanwhile the gearbox I fixed cost me nearly $4k. And it already had one or two prior replacements (I must not have done very good background check)

It ate tires. Gas mileage was not good, although in Europe there was a diesel model that got over 35 mpg. And when we got rid of it the turbos were starting to chatter.

The new Volvos look great but that XC90 really soured me.

Just arrived

My latest just arrived from the Netherlands, and I’m psyched. It’s an ‘84 99 GL, that’s been built up to be an SPG/aero. It’s got a 2.1L, 16v, full pressure turbo....it drives like an early turbocharged car should, boost comes on at 3000 rpm, but really pushes above 4k....tons of power, 5 speed, cruises well....can’t wait for spring.

I’ve got a few winter projects to do, but I’m looking forward to it....

Tried to send you a PM but your inbox is full. If you decide to sell please let me know, I’ve always wanted and never had an SPG.

thanks for all the positive feedback, so far the car has surpassed my expectations. I have a lot of ideas to bring it to the next level, a 99 ems front spoiler, a hockey stick stripe in black.

The Ronal turbo wheels need to be refreshed/refinished, and I need new tires....so I'm thinking a slightly darker grey....can anyone do a quick photoshop of the car with darker wheels....not quite as dark as the body kit?

You could color match the wheels to the upper body, that might look cool and be period correct.
