I'm a Denzel Super Fan!

There I said it...

IMO he is the number one Hollywood actor right now and has been for a long time.

OK, I worked with him on "Deja Vu", and under-rated Sc-Fi movie, but well done, check it out if you haven't seen it. We filmed it just after Katrina in New Orleans.

sc_rufctr 12-29-2020 07:51 PM

Thanks Mr Hugh but I own every movie he's been in. (On Blu-Ray or DVD)

The one movie that disappointed me was Fences... It could have been great but instead it was chock full of stereotypes and cliches.

One of my all time favourites is: "For Queen and Country" (1988)

Boy, I could tell you stories about how effed up NOLA government was before and after Katrina. After 9/11 NOLA got $millions, just like most other US cities, the NOLA PD didn't have one case of bottled water to their name after Katrina, I was there for months. All those $$$$ just sort of disappeared. And they blamed everyone else.

Tobra 12-29-2020 08:17 PM

Just watched Deja Vu again, good flick

Agree.... always enjoy his films and his predecessor Sidney Poitier

First took notice of him in ‘Devil in a blue dress’. Along with Don Cheadle.
Excellent film.

The character he created for "Glory" is one of my favorites. Morgan Freeman was also unforgettable in that one.

One of my all time favourites. The ending was tragic but amazingly based on a true story. They knew they were going to die but they went in regardless. It reminded me of our ANZACS at Gallipoli.

Great entertainer. I always look forward to his movies. I remember when he was a janitor on St Elsewhere.

speeder 12-30-2020 07:24 AM

Much better actor than he is a person but a super actor, for sure. He really should not be mentioned in the same conversation as Sidney Poitier, a giant of a man. They are both black and actors, that’s about it.

Sadly I think that statement applies to many in the sports and entertainment industry. I may respect their ability but I doubt many are worthy of the idolization they tend to receive.

The Synergizer 12-30-2020 08:24 AM

If you want to be disappointed, meet your heroes.

stevej37 12-30-2020 08:35 AM

The movie 'Flight' is my favorite.

Steve Carlton 12-30-2020 08:36 AM

I'm just going to go with what I see on the screen, like with Tom Cruise. It's nice when the actor is a quality person, as well (Jon Voight comes to mind). Denzel is one of my favorites for sure. I liked Crimson Tide and Man on Fire the most. Need to watch Glory.

URY914 12-30-2020 08:43 AM

These guys are just saying things that others people tell them to in movies.
Different in real life.

vash 12-30-2020 09:54 AM

i like his movies. but i do think he kinda acts the same throughout.

but a lot of actors do that.

I always hoped Jimmy Stewart was an exception to that rule of thumb.

herr_oberst 12-30-2020 11:46 AM

I thought you were a Tom Cruise super fan?

herr_oberst 12-30-2020 11:49 AM

Pretty good impersonation

There is no other actor that could say the phrase "My man." in so many different yet impactful ways.

stevej37 12-30-2020 12:37 PM

He's similar to Tom Hanks......only takes on good movies.

sammyg2 12-30-2020 03:11 PM

I really like his work, but my opinion of him tanked a little after he did American gangster.

He portrayed Frank Lucas as a smooth talking sophisticated businessman, when in reality he was a ruthless, uncivilized and uneducated murderer and low-life.
It seemed to me like he was lying to the audience.

This is how Denzel portrayed Frank Lucas:

This was the REAL Frank Lucas:

LakeCleElum 12-30-2020 03:15 PM

Flight, Training Day and "Man on Fire" are my Fav's......

stevej37 12-30-2020 03:24 PM

In 'Flight' he played an ordinary man with an addiction problem. A very believable role that he played to the max.
His bad guy/hero roles in other movies are all similar....but good.

Mr Cruise is not on the same level as Denzal. I'm sure Tom makes more money but Denzel makes better movies and he'll take risks that Tom wont.

Pfffft. B grade actors.

There can be only one at the top.

Just in case anyone was wondering...

- The watch Denzel wore in both "The Equalizer" movies was the Suunto Core All Black SS014279010.

Man on fire is brilliant and having Christopher Watkin play his mentor was also brilliant.

There can only be one top poster at a time and it's you. :D

Having known Danny for exactly 35 years, (the year he became an actor), I can say that he is head and shoulders above Denzel as being a great guy.

ckcarr 12-31-2020 08:30 AM

I got one of those. Don't really recommend it for the real world. Always hard to read, batteries go fast. Watch band breaks constantly. It's now also all beat up and scratched from sandstone. I keep fixing it up with my black Harley-Davidson touch up paint.

Loved Glory. He was also very good in A Soldier's Story and Cry Freedom

gsxrken 12-31-2020 11:11 AM

I like his movies too. He does always select a dignified, quietly-competent character for his roles, but frankly I like those sort of movies anyway. I have no idea who he really is as a person. He’s also older than I thought (66). Him and Liam Neeson (68) probably should start turning down bad-ass roles.

Probably some truth in that. I avoid the very rich and famous. Nothing to see, move on.

Bob Kontak 12-31-2020 11:53 AM

He demonstrates the coolness factor differently than Cruise.

I enjoyed Flight because his character had so many unfavorable flaws and he finally owned them. Book of Eli is probably my favorite but if I watched all of his flicks back to back that would probably change.

Cool. Happy New Year, Denis and to all you guys.

If you get a chance ask him to text me and let me know what he says.

Just to be clear this has nothing to do with the Chinese people.

I made enquires when the movie first released on Blu-Ray but the watch is "Made in China".
As a general rule: If I have to buy Chinese made I always look for the second hand option.
... If I can't find that I wait and ask myself... "Do I really need it?"

I avoid buying Chinese made products regardless of the owner of the company and I've been doing that for decades.

(Yes I have a smart phone. I bought it new because buying a smart phone second hand is not an option IMO.)
