I'll bet that is some tasty victuals. You're lucky that you have that available.

I view the parroting of bat-****-crazy theories as a symptom of the de-centralized new and information channels. Up until 15 years ago, you received 'knowledge' from school, parents, clergy and libraries. Each of which had motivation to keep you on a generally centric path. With 'knowledge' now gleaned from the web, it takes a modicum of internal dialog to read something and ask 'Does that make sense?'. There is no longer the check/balance of those other information channels in place and it is quite difficult, often time intentionally, to measure the quality of the information you are reading. As long as you read it on the web and the website looks professional it must be true. So begins the fall into bat-****-crazy rabbit holes and regurgitation of Bill Gates is controlling our lives theories.

I am more worried about my daughter and how she will navigate this new knowledge base more than just about everything else. Mostly as it effects every part of modern life and the decisions we make.

Problem is, even the places you trust are playing games.
The trick is instead of trying to put out fires for others, to teach how to parse information.

Because of lawsuits, clever wording is used to lie without getting sued. Look for how things are phrased.
Critical thinking is largely absent in education, a greater focus is spent on what to think.
Get out in life, and....

Maybe I'm a bit naïve but I thought it was 5G that would be switched on and kill us all simultaneously LOL
I just looked at this whole thread. Not one request for a pic of the sister. I am disappointed.

Yup. And there is nothing “centric” about any of the cable news networks, or their local affiliates.

This thread sparked a conversation with my dad, he's been on the tech side of TV starting with when he was a teenager.
I asked him when TV news became about pushing a narrative instead of journalism.

He said he's never known it not to be.
His knowledge goes back to 1960.
It is a fundamentally bad format given the disconnect that is possible between what you're told, what you're seeing, what you're hearing, and what actually happened.
However, a lot of brains can't recognize it, and because they are being presented both visual and audible ques give it a very high credibility.

Perhaps, but I would argue that the 24 hour news channels have made it exponentially worse. In the old days when people watched the evening news, or even the early days of cable news channels like headline news, it was about 30 minutes of content. There simply isn’t enough time to present more than basic information on each story. There’s also not time to sensationalize every terrible event that happened in BFE to perpetuate that the sky is falling. But now with 24 hours to fill, it’s 99% opinion and spin.

You know you’re being fed a bunch of lies when the narrative changes.

Did they ever find the Weapons of Mass Destruction in Iraq or one of the Axis of Evil countries?

Who knew the real weapons of mass destruction were right here in our own back yard the entire time, piped into everyone’s homes daily via cable or the internets.

The real ‘weapon of mass destruction’ is mainstream media. The ‘improvised explosive devices’ are the crazy bloggers on YouTube, Facebook, and other grass roots media outlets.

That’s one of the ‘advantages’ of digital media over printed media. You can go back and change the story, whereas printed media can’t be changed once printed and delivered.

If I recall correctly, they recovered more than 5000 rounds of ordinance with chemical warheads.

That is a good way to describe it.
In 2020 I did not find a single good news source.
Every single one had some sort of beef with something somewhere and any narrative related to it would be shared in a way to bring down.

It takes quite a few sources to get what is going on and a lot of effort.
It also takes accepting a lot of issues will stay in Schroedinger's box. There isn't the information to confirm one way or the other, but people want to believe.
The step of recognizing a situation of ignorance isn't in the brain capacity for a lot of people.

People run with unconfirmed conjecture and allow it to create massive impenatrable structures in thinking.
Paleontology is full of guesses that people believe without realizing how weak the process has been, or how little evidence exists(if at all.)
And as Javadog said, a clue is changing narrative.
Dinosaurs when I grew up were still drawn wth scales.
Now they are drawn with featers.
The entire accepted pose for dinosaurs has also changed.
We were guessing, and uh, we're still guessing.

Try this one on for size. I've no idea if this is confirmed or not but it is a head shaker.
