Alls I know is, if you're Asian then you'd better work your ass off. Otherwise, you'll be like the Latin who's got no love game. Or the alcoholic Muslim. Or a Black dude with a small pecker and got no rythm.

"Some people will only join a group if they can be the leader, again fear of being under someone else's thumb."

I have to take issue with that one. I've been a leader all my life and it's got nothing to do with fear of being under someone else's thumb. It's more like annoyance than fear. I just want freedom to do things my way and it pisses me off to have someone standing between me and my goals.

When I think about why I am starting to hate visiting this forum, threads like this are the reason why.

I've always wondered about that. Can you expand?

Exactly! That's exactly how it works.

Again, The people without a moral compass aren't the root of the problem. The root is leaders and public figures that point a compass in the wrong direction, for personal gain.

People are weak, they are tribal, they can't make sense of their own world and play the victim. They follow any compass needle that eases their pain by inflicting pain on others. Inflicting pain is strength. It's community. It creates a focus for them to make sense of why they are where they are. People are weak.

Leaders exploit that weakness, they exploit their pain.

Leaders and public figures create boogeymen. They create enemies. Creating an enemy creates a shared experience with other like-minded individuals to fight against something. It creates a community. Communites are comforting and self-reinforcing. Many Americans, more than the greater human population, are more comfortable being against something than for something. It's easier. You don't have to think. A leader or public figure tells you who the enemy is and people bond around the fight against it. It's comforting. It gives you PURPOSE and EXPLAINS why you aren't where you want to be in life. Scapegoats are powerful concepts.

Enemies are easy to create. The community built to fight them are even easier to exploit.

For leader's and public figure's personal gain.

Way back in 1989 there was a school shooting in Stockton. The motivation of the perp in that case would seem to follow Shauns thoughts.

Two things here, first; is that I had two particular people in mind when I wrote that, and did not really look at myself. When I do, your point is well taken.

Many times I have lead and or been elected to lead, usually because I feared other's inadequacies and didn't want anyone in the group to be their victim including myself. Some people don't handle power well or are just incompetent, best not allow them leadership domain no matter what their confidence level.

For reference one of the two people was my father, ex-jock (High School) very competitive but not combative (unless confronted head-on). He joined several well known men's charity organizations only to lead them via election within a couple of years, he did the same at work as elected grievance man in the labor union at the factory.

The second person is a well know political leader that would not join a major political party until he made a run to lead one, the more malleable of the two parties.

Secondly, for argument's sake I was lumping all negative emotions into a single category and completely ignoring the positive one or ones.

Clearly not follow the 5-7 base emotions qualified professionals advocate.

I was pushing and perhaps hoping for some push-back to challenge me so I could grow a bit, and I thank you wdfifteen for your participation in this exercise.

pisses me off = fear?

Warning, the below link has a lot of double talk, but it may provide some interesting perspectives.

Hate and fear may come from the same place, but they are not the same thing
https://fsnursing.com/hate-fear-may-come-place-not-thing/
Quote:

Hate is the reaction that we feel towards something that is threatening us. Fear is what happens when we can’t do anything about it.

Not the reverse.
I have tried to use hate and or fear as motivation before, and what I have found is that mental/intellectual challenges DO NOT respond well to it. However, physical disciplines DO respond well to hate/fear.

Hate/Fear by-passes or short circuits intellectual processes into non-thinking and high doing, in my experience.

The example is: while in college and struggling with a higher math class, I tied to force stimulate myself with the thought of; if I fail I'll be doomed to going back to working on the coke oven in the steel mill again. These thoughts did absolutely nothing for me, in fact were detrimental in some way.

Motivation to succeed was found by looking ahead, not behind, and looking ahead is hope not fear.

My counter example of using hate/fear successfully is with a bully client demon spawn from hell that angered me so much that long walks, listening to music and drinking some good booze were not doing anything to contain what I was feeling. Added to that I was looking at the scale and my weight was officially an issue, my body had rejected my methods of stress control.

I set forth on a new path of aggressive exercise with the thought of settling things with my fists in the back of my mind, I turned rage into muscle and pounds shed off.

I've been on this path for 10 years now, it's working and I'm not going back to swallowing or drowning my fears with food/drink. Turn hate/fear about and punch it in the face, you don't actually have to hit someone and it's still legal to assault a heavy bag in my state.

A question,
Has there been an actual change, or rather, are incidents finally making your attention?

It is very easy to be manipulated about subjects one isn't familiar with.
There are issues that I know reporting on them has gone up, but the number of incidents were going down.
Which warps perception.

Good question, it's very hard to tell, much of the truth of the matter takes time to retrospectively analyze.

I can tell you during the Iran hostage crisis I was almost assaulted , and after 9/11 got so many dirty looks that I shaved my beard. I look just enough like I could be from almost anywhere that the hate was felt and violence against me was a possibility.

My theory is that things are happening despite the megaphone of hate being taken away, and even if this person inciting xenophobia never existed there would still be some of this.

Tervuren 03-20-2021 01:45 PM

If you focus on saying systemic racism is prevalent you will increase racism.

If on the other hand you teach that the way one's expression is towards other people effects how those other people are a key that unlocks much of the world is given.

Those without that key, are missing out.

I never heard of the Slants until they had a trademark lawsuit against the gov't that went to the SCOTUS. Who are the racists? Why does it exist?

I think you all know the answer.

911pcars 03-20-2021 04:01 PM

Slants? Did I miss some reference in this thread thus far?

Ahh.... so

https://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2017/06/19/533514196/the-slants-win-supreme-court-battle-over-bands-name-in-trademark-dispute

That Supreme Court decision deserves further discussion.

After a year of cheering on rioters, looting and burning in these cities (by the MSM, Hollywood and politicians)...and night after night, letting the perpetrators go free...people are shocked that some found out they liked it and are still hurting small, elderly people? It is amazing that there is not more of it. Of course hitting an elderly lady made the news. If they punched a linebacker, it would not have...as they would have been scraped off the pavement.

BTW, lots more attacks on Jewish folks in this country...just sayin.

Yup. More of em, but not more important. Asians, Muslims, Jews, Latinos, Blacks, Uighurs, Gmong and other ethnic groups also. You do see a systemic pattern here in the "land of the free", yes?

Do you? Do you see a "systemic pattern here?"

What pattern is that?

I understand it may not be common knowledge. It's only mentioned sporadically in our school history books. Oh, and we divided the US in a civil war back in the 1800s over it. You may have heard.

What does it mean, that most discrimination happens at the individual level? What's the difference between "tribal" and individual discrimination? This isn't a political discussion of one-upmanship as much as you seem to characterize it.

I guess in Nazi Germany, the Jewish, Polish and Gypsy tribes were getting their panties in a wad over nothing when targeted individuals were imprisoned and/or gassed?

What if..... in some future society, today's ruling class structure is flipped and becomes a minority, and laws and/or social mores gradually discriminate against that group? Would your flip answer (and eye rolling) be helpful in any way to ameliorate that disparity? Now imagine you were in that targeted group.

If you can't, pull up Planet of the Apes for an entertaining view.

mattdavis11 03-20-2021 11:54 PM

Time to redistrict, census not accurate again. Not all are reporting. Who is the minority, and how do you know?

Tervuren 03-21-2021 02:31 AM

Be proud to be an American, teach that.
Other problems would go away with this.
There would be no oppressed minority class if citizens identified as Americans instead of insert divisive arbitrary label here.

Go watch the video I posted.
How you treat people is reflected because other people are part mirror.
If you have animosity towards some group based on ideas of racial oppression it shows on your face.
Other people see that, and it gets mirrored back.
Self fulfulling prophecy, and it is better not to do it.

Since your bring it up.

The NAZI's themselves considered they were oppressed and taken advantage of.
Their platform was one where they needed to break free of their oppressors.
