Robocall assault on me

Since Feb 28 I've gotten 24 calls from 24 different Albemarle, North Carolina numbers, 704-550-xxxx, all with the identical recording trying to sell health insurance. If you listen to the whole recording they give you the option of opting out of further calls from that number, but that does no good, as all calls are from a different number. This morning I got two calls within one hour and two more this afternoon. If you call the number back you get a message from Verizon saying the number is no longer in service. WTF is going on? This is driving me nuts. Verizon wants me to pay them to block the calls. What a racket that is. The spammer pays Verizon for his phone service and I pay Verizon to disable it.
Pisses me off.

I have Verizon and there’s no charge to block calls.

I have had the same thing from same location. I just block the numbers as they come. Also, put your phone number on the DO NOT CALL registry.

I get at least three calls per day all from 419-203-.... I have at least 20 different 419-203 numbers blocked on my phone from the same place. I don't know how Verizon would block the call when they're calling from a different last four each time.
I got at least 2 calls a day from someone claiming to do something with Senior citizens. It wasn't until I said FahQ several times after answering and hearing it was them that they stopped calling.

Our service provider finally enabled Nomorobo.
I was home on Friday so I decided to pick up every ring - 6 robocalls before 2:00. I enrolled that afternoon.

Since Nomorobo - not a single spam call. The phone rings once and stops.

I'm about ready to get it for my cell (which gets less - maybe a couple per week).

They identify and block robocalls preemptively? For free?

I was being bombarded with Medicare crap. Pushing "3" to stop further calls did no good. So I waited on a human to come on line. Told them to stop the calls. Asked for a supervisor and told them to stop immediately. I asked for the business name which they provided. (I can't find the name, dang it ). Never received another call.

Just part of life in America. I get 3-4 a day, I do not believe it is possible to stop it , the numbers change frequently . The do not call list does not work. They mimic numbers and area codes that I use frequently .

Very common issue to get spammed from your area code and prefix. I block them as they come, they keep coming. Your cell should also allow you to block all calls from numbers not in your contact list. I'm close to doing that. They can still leave a voicemail so if it is a legit call, you will get the message.

I never answer unless I recognize the number. They will leave a message if its a real call.

Yes they do .

Free on my home phone. $1.99 / month for cell phones.

https://www.nomorobo.com/

When I first saw this app it wasn't available for my landline provider, it is now. Setup is a bit fussy.

I have been dealing with this on my cell by ignoring calls that I don't recognize. If they don't leave a message I block them. Since I starting doing that I have knocked the calls on my cell down to a couple every few weeks. Oddly enough, when I get one on the cell I will get a couple more the same day or next day. Then they stop for a while.

I could do the same with my home phone but blocking numbers on that line is more complex.

I used nomorobo until I switched providers and they did not support the feature nomorobo relies on.

Ended up cutting most of the cord and ported the number to google voice.

It's even better than nomorobo, my phone rarely rings at all.

I sometimes forget I still have a landline.

I sure hope that last few minuets of that show are real.

Blocking the numbers from your area code and prefix is pointless. Simple math, from 0000 to 9999 is 10,000 different phone numbers the scammers can use.

It is 100% possible for the scammers to fake your own number and you are calling yourself as far as your phone knows. Just hang up, it is pointless to block that number unless they call from it more than once.

Watch the clip Sidney posted. (Warning: some bad language is used) It explains what and why it is happening. The only way we can stop it, is to talk to your US Senator and Representatives that are in DC. Only when they hear from a large majority of the voters will they require the FCC to do something. And it will take a lot of voters to convince them when the telemarketing lobby can just take them on a "fact finding mission" to Maui to play golf at a 5 Star hotel to discuss it.

Yeah, that's more than likely going to get you more calls.

If you answer the phone, that is an invitation. If you call back, that is an invitation.

If you ignore all calls that you don't recognize and never answer and never call back, they go away for the most part.
You'll still get the occasional call but it won't be all the time.

With sprint i can block any number for free simply by pushing a few buttons on the phone.

I understand lots of folks don't answer unless they know the person calling. My cell phone is also my business line. Just last week I had a package coming via FedEx and it required a signature. The delivery driver called me from his cell phone. I had did not know the number, but I answered. It was a good call, as he told me about when to expect him and he wanted to be sure someone was there to sign for the package.

Yea, I get a few robocalls. My Microsoft license just expired, the IRS are about the send "the cops" after me, and I am supposed to go to Walgreens to buy a gift card or the local sheriff's department is going to arrest me for missing jury duty. The cool one was someone was worried the warranty on my car was about to expire. I was happy to hear they could extend the warranty on my 1986 El Camino with 365,000 miles on it. They changed their minds. Dang it.
