My Momz has it as her bedroom laptop screen saver. Says she left it on all night....right next to her "I've fallen and can't get up" button at Leisure World.

And now I've been watching too long...

Steve, they are looking for food and the bowl is empty. Time to send the naked lady to fill the food bowl.

He's sitting on a plant that is trying to grow.

It's very overcast here today...looks like storms coming soon. Surprised the turtles are even out of the water. Maybe the long winter inside is doing it.

So I put it on my phone browser and check it out in the middle of the night if I wake up. I often saw one swimming at the surface.

When do they sleep? I'm guessing through the day or is it whenever they want or can?

How long can they stay submerged? How long submerged winter in the garage vs summer and outside?

I think they forage for food during the night.
They can pick food out of the dish...but they can't swallow it until they get back into the water.
Sleep?...I think you got it. They don't have an extended time like mammals do.

I don't know about the air thing. Whenever I checked on them in the winter..they were laying on the bottom of the tank..motionless.

One interesting thing I learned. The females can store the sperm from the males for over years and still lay fertilized eggs. Three years is the max recorded.

Has anyone created an area for wild turtles to lay eggs, sun themselves, etc? ...

I did, a couple years ago when the largest female started showing signs of nesting.
I took the box, that holds the food dish out, and replaced it with a box full of sand.
A few days later, I watched as she backed-up into the box and started digging with her rear paws. After laying and covering two eggs..I took the box indoors and placed a heat lamp over it. After giving them plenty of time to hatch...I uncovered them and they were dried out. I opened one up and it had an undeveloped turtle.

My mistake was the humidity...It's so hard to replicate their natural nesting grounds.

It's raining right now and they are still out of the water...lol

We have both snapping and painted turtles in our immediate area with one particular female snapper. She came up the east lawn a couple of years back to lay her eggs.

The other issue I've noticed is that the baby snappers for some reason will leave the lake area to head towards a more swampy area. The problem is the road between. Most get runover as people can't see them with the autumn eaves falling. I helped this one little guy, no bigger than my thumb, to the other side.

It would be nice to create an area where they are more protected.

^^^ I think she is kicking out sand to lay her eggs.

That small snapper must only be a few weeks old.
What state is this? Almost looks like MI
