Well, I know I'm a jerk, but I didn't know it was true of people in general. Thanks to you I don't feel special anymore, you jerk.

People are jerks. I'm gonna paint the fence with baby poo. Not paint. Real poo.
do they ever get packages delivered when they aren't home?

just asking

Out of curiosity, how old is the daughter? Teen? If so, they are often wankers, and that explains a lot. Or maybe the whole family is a bunch of wankers, which has a pretty high probability.
wankers, no matter the age of the daughter who might not have known why a parent handed her some new shampoo

My money’s on the neighbor being a porch pirate.

I wasn't involved directly, but it happened to my former boss's wife. We all lived within two blocks of each other.

She gets a package, left at the front door, and opens it up, paying no attention to the addressee. She notices the mistake, and delivers it immediately.

Dixie Chick dad, Lloyd Maines, turns on her, and wears her out for opening the package. Brought her to tears. It was a platinum album sent by a wench named Natalie.

This was before the dixie chicks went rouge. I liked them, haven't listened since that.

Change "want" to "need" and I wholeheartedly agree. Kids may want a nice parent buddy, but they need someone to teach them how to be decent humans.

I always check any package to make sure my name is on it before opening. Only takes a second and becomes habit after a while.

There have been occasions when something was delivered to me by mistake. It's nice to deliver it unopened.

One of the best lessons a child can learn from their parents is never to touch anything that doesn't belong to them. Unless they receive permission first. That covers a lot of territory!

I have on one or two occasions opened a package left at my door and said WTF I didn't order this!!

Then looked at the address, let out a big oops, and delivered the package to the proper house. If the people aren't home Ill write out a quick note explaining what happened... and if they are home tell them what happened and apologize...

I was thinking that it was a possibility that the kid (assuming it was a teen) grabbed the box off the porch, opened it without thinking (assuming her parents had ordered it) and used it assuming "if it's my parents, then it's mine."

I was trying to give the family the benefit of a doubt, maybe the daughter was clueless/not thinking and the parents were trying to solve an already fubar situation.

That as my first instinct, but if the OP’s recount of the mom’s response is truly verbatim, mom is a jerk.

Wow, I don’t even know how to reply. I have two teenagers and would go full scorched earth if either took an incorrectly delivered package as their own.

No one opens a package without a glance at who it's addressed to. No one, including teenagers. She opened that package knowing full well that it was yours.

I'm still waiting for the envelope with 100 $100 bills to be mistakenly delivered to me. If and when that happens, I'll let you know the results.

In the old days when packages were rare, yes. These days when packages are constantly arriving from Amazon to almost the whole world, maybe not.

Tell Amazon you didn't receive it. They can have a dispute with the girl next door. Their fault.

That's pretty weird. Like really weird.

Maybe you should order a few dildos from Amazon and when they get delivered you can make sure they get to her porch.

She'll open that one too.

Not a peep? Ask her if she's seen your dildos. Then tell her to stop opening your fking packages.

If she brings them over opened? Tell her to stop opening your fking packages.

If she yells at you because the kid opened it and you're a pig, then tell her to stop opening your fking packages.

The only way it could go wrong is if she tells you she loved them and wants to keep them and pay you for them.
