Do you watch animal vet shows ?

My wife and I enjoy various vet shows on TV . We find it interesting how vets can handle/treat such a variety of animals . Just finished watching " critter fixers " and Dr. Hodges treated a dog that had it's lower lips on the left side torn away from the jaw . He did a surgery to get all the messed up meat back in place .

The next day he found some of the tissue was black so it was dying . He was at wits end on what to do , he decided on a experimental treatment of surgically adding a layer of tilapia skin onto/over the wound area !!! A few days later the dog was good to go ! Just amazing the skill level of some vets . As good as doctors are at treating humans there are vets as skilled to treat animals .

We enjoy this type of programming over most of the crap out there . Seeing some good being done on TV is refreshing . I am sure there are others on here that enjoy these types of shows . Enjoy the holiday guys 😊

Our 8yo is addicted to that exotic vet lady in San Diego (Dr K?) and Dr Pol from Michigan.

It surely beats the nineteenth episode of bluey (OK, I admit that I do kind of like Bluey) or whatever she mainlines on youtube.

No... it seems like we live them.

My wife had to deal with this yesterday. Calf in pain.

When I banded this guy, something was not right and I redid it. Still didn’t seem right.

Turns out one of his testes hand not dropped yet...

We have another calf that we’ve been treating for 3 weeks that looks like it’s going to make it. It spend 6 nights at the vet clinic and a few days in my heated shop but it looks like it’s going to be fine.

We have a cow who lost her calf and it took over a week for her to pass he afterbirth... antibiotics every second day for her to prevent infection...

And one more with a broken rib and sunburn... that one is easy, a couple shots of antibiotics to prevent an abcess and metacam for pain. It’s out on the pasture now.

We pulled one at 4:00 AM on Thursday morning, it’s doing well and is on the pasture already.

Big animal vets teach farmers how to diagnose and treat animals themselves. No sense calling the vet if you can do it yourself.

I trust our ranch vets more than people doctors. My ex used to work for our vet, anytime anybody in that clinic got a bruise or sprain they'd run in the back and x-ray it to see if they really needed to go to a people doctor. Slipped my kids in there more than once. Instant "Yup, it's a green stick fracture, better go to urgent care." I've learned how to suture, IV, set bones. Stuff I figured it was good to know just in case.-WW
ps...Yup always count two, then one more time just before we let them loose. That's my job, the removal guy. Was a knife man for years, but now with wolves..moved up to banding.

I’m interested because my son just graduated from Virginia Tech as a Doctor of Veterinarian Medicine. He is now in Madison Wisconsin working in their animal Ophthalmology department. His advice to most pet owners is... get pet insurance.

In Edmonton ACGAS reruns are showing on Prairie Public TV Sunday evenings. The filming is done in Yorkshire close to where I was borne.

After 20 of doing the real thing, I have no desire to watch it.

For the most part, the animals were great; some of the owners ruined the experience.
