It's rare but there was a case in San Francisco a few years ago where two Cannarsie(?) dogs attacked and killed a woman in the hallway of an apartment building and the owners are doing long prison sentences, if not mistaken.
It was a Cane Corso which is like the upgraded version of the pit bull.

I read about the case and there were some mitigating factors:
1). Neighbors reported the dogs had gotten out in the apartment hallway several times before. They might as well had a pet elephant. It's cruel to keep big animals cooped up in such a small place.
2). The dog owners showed little remorse after the fact and were characterized as dirty WP extremists. In S.F.
3). The victim was a well-known beautiful lesbian local attorney. In S.F.

The same legality doesn't happen when some thug gangster's pit mauls a kid or two. Even NFL payers are involved.
I've read stories of loose packs which roamed around a neighborhood for a while causing havoc.

Labs supposedly have the most bite incidences statistically. Poodles and Huskies are both mouthy. I lived with an insane Jack Russel for too long.
But Pits, Dobies, GSD are involved in the more serious cases.

I hate the little ankle biter yappy dogs you want to punt through an end-zone upright.

I agree in principle. However, I also agree with one Abraham Lincoln, who once said something like "America is a big country. Plenty of room to swing your arms as wide as you like. Your right to do so, however, ends at the tip of my nose."

The victims name was Dianne Whipple and she was a Lacross coach. The two dogs that killed her were Presa Canarios. The owners of the dogs were a married couple, both were attorneys and both did serious jail time

Thx for the correction.

As I remember, the breed is a mix of Mastiff and some nasty breed from the Canary islands. The big ass male that delivered the coup de Gras death bite to that poor girl was named Bane. Gives you an idea of the bad ass attitude of the owners. And they being lawyers, of course, tried to blame the dead girl for the attack.

That probably doesn't work with most dogs, I'm guessing.

A childhood friend's dog (Shelty or BC) was programmed to attack the shoes of all visitors.
It had probably been kicked at one point.

The former girlfriend's Jack Russel had already been kicked by a cow and many times by her former hot-headed previous partner. It had also bitten her daughter and best friend's husband. It almost bit a woman on the street who bent down to pet it's smiling face and waggy tail, but I yanked it back just in time. It had bitten me three times already and the gf thought that was quite funny actually.
I had to plan bathroom breaks carefully especially at night.
One day I was busy working in the garden, going back and forth past it on the deck. It came after me from behind with no warning. Not even a growl. I did a no-look 135deg "fk off" reflexive kick (didn't think it was that hard) but somehow it's leg got caught on the boards and broke. It limped off into the plants. I followed up by going up and standing above with outstretched arms being really "big" for a while before taking it to the vet. I was the #1 now and this was the great reset.
The next year I was still the primary feeder/walker etc. I gave it some serious love and tried to do some serious attention and training. Put my heart into it. The more love it got, the nastier it became. Same with the gf actually.
After that it incident it still went after me on a regular basis. Nothing could be done. Programming doesn't always work.

(fwiw I think of most dogs by their "name" or "he/she". I get the dog park face kisses all the time. That thing was an "it" and should have been taken down east a long time ago.)

Ha, irritating little buggers. Reminds me of Taco, a POS little chihuahua belonging to my friends evil step mother. All the kids in the neighborhood hated both. We all had mini bikes and that little bastard would chase us and try to bite our ankles. He ****ed up once and his leg got broke under the rear tire of my buddy's bike. His step mother was so pissed she came at him with a swinging fist trying to hit him in the head. My buddy stuck a defensive arm up and she broke her arm over his. The wicked witch was in a cast for weeks, her little dog too. It was an awesome turn of events.

One website said Labs are the most common. They may rarely be reported though. i.e. no open injury.

That’s not a very good sample. 5000 bites over 32 years, when they were 5 million bites a year?
