Too much " me " and not enough " us " mindset . It seems like simple manners have died. A simple example I was taught to open/hold a door open for anyone behind you . I am amazed at how many individuals won't say a simple thank you . It doesn't stop me from doing it but it's something I notice .

Car turn signals: they are not optional every car/truck has them . Take these simple examples and start casting them outward and you will see the issues get bigger with more impact . I am a firm believer in everything happens for a reason and runs in cycles . I do believe we will get back on track as a nation , but we will need REAL leaders to assist in that . Not talking political leaders as that's a lost cause , I am talking family and community leaders . Grassroots leaders .

I have noticed that when someone says "excuse me", it seems they are saying get out of my way.

Baz, I can see why some people don't bother with manners. A week of so ago I held a door open for a woman and she walked half way through then stood in the middle of the doorway checking her texts. It makes you wonder.

and yes, accept that others have different P.O.V.s

You might take a bit of your own advice

Oh and things like "You shall not kill" or "honor your father and mother" or "shall not commit adultery" ... terrible! how dare someone try to push those ideas! f'kers!

2021 commandment updates:

"Thou shalt not prioritize the almighty cellular device over the moment at hand."
"Thou shalt not type things ye wouldn't say to a person's face."

I was raised in the Catholic faith. I've never tried to force my beliefs on others. I have had others tell me I must accept their way of thinking or I'm "bigoted". That seems odd to me.

Yep. As has been said many times before, those who hate religion create their own religion which carries all the same problems they claim to be solving.

My answer to OP is the move away from being bound by morals and dismantling of the family unit.

Lack of accountability
Worship of youth-
Declining educational standards

We're just spoiled, untrained children squandering what those before us built.

Worship of youth......that’s an excellent observation.

Isn’t there some irony that the live webcam is part of the problem?

I don’t watch others thru a webcam.

There is no such beast as an "American Culture".

There was, in the mean, a set of societal norms and a Constitution that helped, in many ways, define what America as a society meant.

We have never been homogeneous in race or outlook but there was, with exceptions, an expectation of certain behaviors and perspectives: Belief in education, religious tolerance, respect for others, freedom of speech, etc. as discussed in the BoR and the Constitution; the ten commandments without the cross so to speak.

Every successful, free, society operates this way.

Has the US made blunders, often spectacular mistakes? Of course. Show me Utopia and I'll show you a cartoon. But we have, addressed those ills as well as human nature allows.

All societies have an arch, from establishment to ruins that are a tourist destination...whether or not we can arrest the downward trend is in question.

Solutions, causes?

Plenty. I could list 50 off the top of my head.

Start with a complete revamp of our educational system and end two party rule.

The GF and I were talking about this just a few day's ago. We came up with...

It's simply the parents or grandparents laziness.

The majority of children do not have to do anything hard or something that takes actual work anymore. Especially children who live inside of cities. Its too dangerous for kids to play outside alone in the city. So stay in and game til you are a adult. As a adult you can probably safely ride the bus or whatever and start going out.

The standards for everything keep dropping and dropping because quitting when something is hard or a PITA is now accepted. Too out of shape to compete physically? No problem we will make the task easier. Hard time with math? No problem, Google it. Don't want to get a job? No problem, we'll still feed and pamper you and keep a roof over your head forever.

We've been watching it real time with one of my GF's co-workers. 18 year old son, at home, won't work, hates school, has a live in girlfriend. All under a single mom's roof. Every week it's new tales of "Oh, I can't make him do that it's too hard."-WW

Kids these days are nothing more than store-bought princes and princesses, and are never told 'no' or given any challenge. Listen to their parents, convinced their spoiled little s**t is a future 'leader' or 'president'- naturally

Look at the current crop of <40 years old- entitled, largely unskilled and insufferable. That's where we're going.

perhaps the most basic - cogent guiding principal ive ever heard...

When asked "how a wise man speaks?'

Lao Tzu replied, "The wise man speaks as though all could hear his words".

Further, when asked how the wise man acts, he replied,

"The wise man acts as though all could see his actions".

Responsibiity, Respect and Honor.

Perhaps, winning at any cost, is not the way.

Listen before speaking

and the golden rule,
chris

Deal is, am I (or we) supposed to lick this guys ass hole to get him to play along?

Seriously, what would you all like to do? I got my view. Figuratively, of course. What a douche nozzle.
