After the huge UN climate report today, every news outlet in the world is telling us because of climate change there is soon to be gloom and doom. They said it’s almost too late, but we still have time to turn it around. So I think that this will cause immediate new laws to curb driving we will have devices in cars to show our mileage if we go over those miles we will be fined and I think natural gas in homes and propane will be stopped immediately.Standby folks, all hell is about to break loose. The president will speak on this soon, and he will have no choice for humanity sick to take Extreme action . I hope I’m not right.

Easy answer, stop screwing. How many people do we need? what was the population of the world in the 60's compared to now?

The dems need people out of work and will pay to keep them out of work so to kill small businesses and weaken the economy. With the economy weak and people on the government dole, they have more control over them. We saw that under the traitor obama and you will see it again. |
I love the commercials in CA for grid friendly thermostats and other devices. This means they can shut down your power when they want. Of course, this has nothing to do with the decommissioning of gas fired power plants. This is just the beginning, I'm afraid. Those windmills are noisy, cause sight pollution, and kill a large number of birds ,especially birds of prey but they are "eco friendly"

How much energy to produce new EV cars and batteries produced by oil fed factories? Mining?

if only someone could manufacture some kind of illness to get rid of millions of them. Even better, some kind of injection that would render them impotent! Perhaps we could manufacture the illness, and then pretend the impotency drug is a 'vaccine.' Hundreds of millions of people would line up for it. 30-40 years later, problem solved. |

I don't hate EV cars/trucks, I just can't justify the expenses, or the current inconvenience of them. I most likely will never own one, because I like the sound of my V8 Mustang, or my diesel Excursion too much.

Electric cars leads to a $/mile tax scheme. Tracking miles and where and WHEN you go is the plan of the psychopaths in govt.
|
Currently we have toll "express" lanes that have "congestion pricing." - lanes have cameras...
The goal is to tax everyone on where they go and when without the expense of cameras. - make the individual BUY their own tracking collar. ..I mean car. |
My guess is that they will do it by mileage. When you renew your plate you will pay the tax at that time. Trying to track every car real time would be a nightmare.
Current tax at say, 50 cents per gallon. At 25 mpg. 2 cents a mile. 10,000 miles in a year. $200. $200 might be steep for some folks. |
Oh yes... this encroachment will end with an end of year mileage report. Trust us.

Positional taxation based on the time and location would be fair. It would also help spread out load with people that can moving to different times of day to the lower cost times. It comes down to if one wants tax system that is fair based on usage, or one that protects privacy. If one values the latter, just take the amount of taxes that need to be collected. Divide it out by the weight of the vehichle's that are registered. Your cost per pound is then arrived at. new registrations enter at this same cost per pound, and the cost per pound gets adjust from time to time as needed. The heavier vehichles have a much higher rate of wear on roads, this would make it a somewhat fair system. It'd also encourage lighter smaller cars instead of mega behemoths. And, I'd like that. :) |

So I guess Onstar and similar systems, plus the memory function in your car has got to go too.
(Yes, I know some folks proudly drive pre_tech vehicles. ) Sometimes I get the impression if the government passed a law requiring mandatory respiration, some folks would threaten to stop breathing in protest. :D Best Les |

Even with aircraft, the ADS-B is only required in specific airspaces. It is a future issue that a world in which EV's make up a higher proportion must face. I'd rather talk about it now, find the downsides and upsides. Personally I favor registration fees based on weight rather than mileage. There isn't a privacy invasion related to vehichle use; but it is still proportions cost based on how much wear a vehichle can do to existing system. It might help society change from passive safety of a heavy vehichle, of active safety of better driving with a light vehichle. |
If you sit in traffic you already pay more. More fuel is burned, and even more valuable is time. IOW people are already highly incentivized to NOT sit in traffic. Adding more tax will not change things much and the tax planners know this - they see easy money.
Gas tax also hits the heavier vehicles harder. I'm sure that truckers would like to pay the same per mile tax as a Geo metro. |
